Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend!

SHIPPENSBURG

The 36th Annual Shippensburg Corn Festival will be held Saturday, August 27 8 AM – 4 PM.  Downtown streets are closed to traffic and transformed into a huge street fair for the day. More than 250 craft and food vendors, an antique car show, free family entertainment and a corn eating contest.

The Lowe’s Build and Grow kids Clinic on August 27, 2016 10 AM is to build an Avengers Hulk project.  Participants receive a free apron, goggles, and project kit to complete.  Register here.

CHAMBERSBURG

A Home Run Derby to fight Drug Addiction will take place on August 27 (Rain Date: August 28th) at Greene Township Park. $10 per person to participate, please bring cash for entry fee.  Registration starts: 10 AM, Derby Event starts: 11 AM.  Assignment of time slots will occur upon check-in by participants. Brackets: Auxillary Field, Boys and Girls 12 and under, Girls 13-18, Women 19+, Main Field: Boys 13-18, Men 19+  Please bring a bat if you have one.  100% of the proceeds will go to Noah’s House, a new recovery center in Chambersburg.  For additional details view the flyer.

There will be a Storytelling Night Out on Friday, August 26th at Inn at Ragged Edge, Chambersburg.  Doors open 6:30 PM, performances 7-9 PM.  Tickets are $10 and include 2 hours of storytelling and hors d’oeuvres. Wine from Jan Zell Wines will be available for purchase at the event.  Tickets can be purchased at the Coyle Free Library, 340 N 2nd St, Chambersburg.

Franklin County Storytellers Festival will be held August 27th 9 AM at Chambers Fort Park, downtown Chambersburg.   The Path to Literacy Character Walk supporting the Franklin County Literacy Council is from 9 AM to 10 AM. Dress as a favorite storybook character (or come as you are) and walk to support literacy.  After the Path to Literacy, the Franklin County Storytelling Festival will be held from 10 AM to 3:30 PM. This event will include two world renowned storytellers and one bluegrass band.

MERCERSBURG

Stoner’s Dairy Farm and Corn Maze in Mercersburg offers plenty of weekend Fall activities beginning August 27, 2016 for any age!  This year their corn maze is Jungle themed.  The 2016 season at Stoner’s Dairy Farm and Corn Maze will kick off with the annual Pig roast at Noon, Saturday, August 27.  Fall Corn Maze Weekends continue through Sunday, October 30th. Hours are Saturday Noon – 10 PM & Sunday Noon – 5 PM, and Select Fridays 7 – 10 PM.

ROXBURY

The 5th Annual Roxbury Bull Ride will be held at Lions Park, 13978 Cumberland Highway on August 27. International Bull Riders sanctioned riders with 60 bulls will be featured at the 7 PM show. Tickets to the show cost $20 for adults, $15 for ages 6 to 12. Admission is free to ages 5 and younger.

CARLISLE

This weekend, August 25 – 28, Corvettes at Carlisle features more than 5,000 Corvettes representing all generations of America’s classic sports car.  Events include autocross, burnouts, parade through historic downtown Carlisle, Corvette giveaway, a huge swap meet, an all-Corvette car corral, Manufacturers Midway, and Installation Alley.  Come visit the Kids at Carlisle Activity Center Area-includes crafts and lots of play activities.

WAYNESBORO

The 25th Annual Jazz Festival 2016 takes place August 28  2 PM – 4 PM at Renfew Institute.  Renfrew Institute’s annual jazz festival spotlights top professional artists each year.  Performers include jazz singer and five-time Grammy nominee, Karrin Allyson and tenor saxophonist, Eric Alexander. Guitarist Paul Bollenback will return, along with bassist Ed Howard.  The concert is followed by an informal question and answer period.   Free and open to the public.  On the lawn behind the museum house.  (Rain site Waynesboro Area Middle School auditorium)  For more information visit renfrewinstitute.org.

North Square Farmers Market, 50 N. Main Street, Saturday, August 27 from 8 AM to NoonChildren ages 3 -12 can sign up for POP (Power of Produce) Club.  Members receive $2 in tokens per market visit to be used on produce or vegetable plant.

A Miniature Train rides the rails at Norlo Park, 3050 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville on Saturdays. It is open to riders of all ages. The train, complete with a cattle car and caboose, is FREE to ride on Saturdays weather permitting from 1 PM to 4 PM throughout Summer & Fall

The 36th annual season of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire at Mount Hope Estate continues every Saturday and Sunday and Labor Day Monday through October 30, 2016. The Faire features costumed characters, themed entertainment, music, dancing, 90 shows daily, 22 royal kitchens, artisan merchants, and handcrafted wares. Mount Hope Estate is located in Northern Lancaster County at 2775 Lebanon Road, Manheim, PA. The event is rain or shine.  Gates open 11 AM and close at 8 PM. Each of the 13 weekends will showcase a different theme.

This weekend’s double-feature at Cumberland Drive-in is “Kubo & the Two Strings” and “Star Trek Beyond.”  Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is located at 3290 Ritner Highway, Newville.  Gates open at 7 PM.  First Feature begins at approximately 8:20 PM.
