Back to School Family Fun Day Returns Aug. 8 with Free School Supplies, Activities and Community Resources
Families from across the region are invited to attend the Back to School Family Fun Day on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Shippensburg Community Fairgrounds for a free afternoon designed to help students prepare for the upcoming school year.
Hosted by the Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce, the event is open to the public and will feature free school supplies, family-friendly activities, educational resources and refreshments while supplies last.
The event brings together businesses, nonprofit organizations and community partners with a shared goal of supporting local students and families as they head back to school.
Children will have the opportunity to receive free school supplies while supplies last, and families can visit nearly 40 community organizations offering educational information, activities and local resources.
Free activities include a petting zoo featuring Highland cows from Adventures with Taurus and Friends, balloon animals by Miss Penelope, a giant inflatable by Strouse Entertainment, free haircuts from Holiday Hair, photo opportunities by Rustic Lux Balloons, and interactive displays from local organizations. PennDOT vehicles, a fire truck, an ambulance and a school bus will also be on site for children to explore.
Free food and refreshments will be available throughout the event while supplies last, including pizza, Dunkin’ donuts, snowballs from The Sweet & Salty Spot and bottled water.
Community organizations participating include Christ Among Neighbors, Community CARES, Coy Public Library of Shippensburg, Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland & Perry Counties, Empowerment XIV, Family Care Services, Franklin County Dairy Promotion, Himalayan Taekwondo, Meet the Needs Inc., Newburg Borough, PennDOT, Sadler Health Center, Shippensburg Aquatic Club, Shippensburg Area Youth Athletics, Shippensburg Civics Club, Shippensburg Community Nurse, Shippensburg Community Resource Coalition, Shippensburg Cub Scout Pack 251, Shippensburg EMS, Shippensburg Fire Department, Shippensburg First Assembly of God, Shippensburg History Center, Shippensburg Lions Club, Shippensburg United Way, Shippensburg University Head Start Pre-K Counts, the YWCA Carlisle and many others.

Admission and all activities are free. School supplies, food and other giveaway items will be distributed while supplies last.
