Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend in & beyond  Shippensburg!  This is not meant to be a complete list.  However, if you have an event you would like to see added, please share in the comments!

In Shippensburg

ShipShape Day is April 25th.  This is an annual “clean up the town” service project. Registration begins at 8:30am at the Firefighters Activity Center, 33 W. Orange Street, Shippensburg.

Printmaking Kids Class at SHAPE gallery, 20 West King Street, Shippensburg on April 25th from 3 pm – 4:30 am; $15.00 members/$20.00 non-members; Grades 1-5;  Children will investigate the many processes of relief printmaking and see how artists make multiple images using a single design!

Little Princess Playhouse at Shippensburg University will present “Magic at the Castle” on two Saturdays, April 25 and May 2 at 10 a.m. and again at 11:30 a.m.  Shows take place inside Stewart Hall on the Shippensburg University campus. Tickets are $4 and will be sold at the door; seating is limited. Parking is free and available at nearby Memorial Auditorium.

RaiderFest is this Saturday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m at Shippensburg University. Enjoy carnival games, food, music, and more! RaiderFest will be held in commuter lot 7, across from the Luhrs Center. Tickets are $3 for students with an ID and kids, $5 for general public. Lunch will be available for purchase in the hockey rink from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students can use a meal plan.

Arbor Day Event at Memorial Park is April 25th 2015 – 1:00 pm.  Meet in largest pavilion. A Celebration and Proclamation of Trees.

  • Recognition of Shade Tree Committee
  • Insight of importance of wise stewardship and the contributions made by trees – Josh Fritz

  • Tree Planting
  • History and purpose of Arbor Day
  • Coloring Contest, Crafts, Tree Trivia, etc.
  • Adopt a Plot – group commitments to future stewardship projects.

Ship Library is Sailing.  Community Kick-Off Event at the Shippensburg Public Library on April 26 from 2:00pm – 5:00pm to celebrate the upcoming renovation.  There will be music, food, and activities for adults & children.

Philly Pretzel Factory is offering free soft pretzels to every guest on Sunday, April 26. In addition, the first 100 people in line that day will get a punch-card for a free pretzel every day in May.  ShipSaves confirmed that Philly Pretzel, located inside Walmart at 100 S. Conestoga Drive, Shippensburg is participating.  Their Sunday hours are 10 am – 5 pm.

 

Beyond Shippensburg

Earth Celebration Day & Festival of Art 2015 at Renfrew Museum & Park, Waynesboro Saturday, April 25, 2015, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Renfrew Institute celebrates spring with environmental exhibits, music, student clothesline display, food stand, and drum circle. At the Festival of Art area artists will display, demonstrate, and sell their works as part of Earth Celebration Day. Free admission. View the Flyer HERE

Hershey Gardens is having a free Community Day.  On April 26th, all visitors will get a FREE admission from 9 am – 5 pm!  From 10 am to 2 pm, local organizations will offer information on various community and garden programs.

Taylor’s Greenhouse, located behind the South Mountain Fairground at 265 Fairgrounds Rd., Biglerville, PA is hosting two events.  On Friday, April 24th from 3:30 pm to 7 pm is Spirit of Spring with Hauser Estate Winery.  There will be wine sampling, light refreshments and door prizes along with Penn State Master Gardeners “Make & Take” Wine Bottle Planter. Cost is $10.00 plus the cost of the plants.

On Saturday, April 25th from 10 am – 4 pm is Everything Butterflies at Taylor’s Greenhouse.  Folk’s Butterfly Farm will feature their walk-in Flight House full of butterflies for kids of all ages to enjoy.  There will be informal presentations on butterflies and showcasing plants to help make a butterfly garden of your own! In addition, Apple Bin Grill & Bakery and Antietam Dairy will be selling refreshments.

Micheal’s Kids Club is every Saturday from 10 am – Noon for ages 3 and up. For $2 your child can make a seasonal craft for 30 minutes while you shop!  On Saturday, April 25th the children will be making a Mothers Day card.

Cumberland Drive-In Theatre, 3290 Ritner Highway, Newville  Friday & Saturday, April 24th & 25th  1st Feature: HOME (PG) 2nd Feature: MALL COP 2  Gates open at 7 p.m. First Feature begins at approximately 8 p.m.

Spring Carlisle Collector Car Swap Meet and Corral – Swap, Vending, Auction, Original Parts, Aftermarket Parts, Collector Cars for Sale  The event is host to thousands of collector and classic automotive enthusiasts, who travel to Carlisle PA Fairgrounds to buy, sell and celebrate all things automotive. Apr 22-26, 2015 Adult Admission: Daily Wed.- Sat. $10 / Sun $7 / Event Pass $30 Gate Times: Wed.-Sat. 7am-6pm , Sun. 7am-3pm Auctions Dates: Thursday & Friday, 3-10pm

Join the Dickinson Community to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Earth Day at EarthFest at the College Farm on April 25th from 6 pm – 10 pm. The event will begin with dinner – veggie burgers, local grass-fed burgers & Leo’s ice cream, and transition into a concert.
