Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend in & beyond Shippensburg! If you have an event you would like to see added, please message us on Facebook.

Shippensburg

Shippensburg Greyhounds Pep Rally/Community Night will be held Friday August 21st at Veterans Stadium in the Memorial Park from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Fall sports teams (golf, soccer, football, volleyball, field hockey, and cross country) will be introduced. The concession stand will be open.

This season at Luhrs Performing Arts Center kicks off this week on August 21st with funnyman Kevin James at 8 pm.

Family Fun Day will be held Saturday, August 22nd at Shippensburg Fairgrounds from 11 am – 2 pm. Family Fun Day is a fun and free way for families to gain valuable information on children and youth programs available in our area.  There will be educational and interactive exhibits; free refreshments; free entertainment; giveaways; and fun for all ages! Shippensburg University’s Media Day and Fan Gathering is set for Saturday, August 22 at 12:30 pm at Seth Grove Stadium. Free schedule posters will be available on a first come, first serve basis. The Red Raiders first game is September 5, at 1 p.m., vs. Seton Hill.

Lowe’s Build & Grow is having their next Build & Grow event on Saturday, August 22nd at 10 am. Bring your child to Lowe’s and they can build Thor’s Chariot. This is last event of the “Marvel’s Avengers Assemble” Summer series.  Spots are filled locally if you haven’t already registered.

7th Annual Blessing of the Backpacks will be held Saturday, August 22nd from 4 pm – 7 pm.  Many Shippensburg Churches and local organizations and non-profits come together to provide school supplies for students in the Shippensburg Area School District area. The event is held at Memorial Lutheran Church parking lot on the corner of Orange and Penn Streets, Shippensburg.   Carnival games to win school supplies (every child will win.) In the event of rain held indoors at the church.  Free Dinner, Free Games, Lots of Door Prizes including Backpacks & Lunch boxes.

On August 22nd, Tractor Supply has an affordable Pet Vaccine Clinic inside their store for your dog, cat, puppy or kitten.  Times are 10:00 am – 11:30 am at the Chambersburg store, 1733 Lincoln Way East or 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm at the Shippensburg store, 40 Shippensburg Shopping Cntr.  No appointment needed, just show up during clinic hours. $18 3-year canine rabies, $15 microchipping.  View the brochure here.

Beyond Shippensburg

Harrisburg International Airport is having an Open House Saturday, August 22, 2015.  Enjoy a fun day on the airfield with the entire family from 9 am – 2 pm. Guests will be able to see a wide variety of aircraft and learn how they operate from pilots and those that maintain the aircraft.  In addition, check out airport equipment and learn the equipment’s role in airport safety. LifeLion helicopter and Hershey’s Kiss Mobile with Children’s Miracle Network will be there as well. Free Admission & Free Parking.  There will be food and drink available for purchase.

C&O Canal Days, a town-wide festival in Williamsport, MD celebrating the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park, will be held August 22nd and 23rd. Arts, crafts and food vendors line the streets throughout the town center and throughout Byron Memorial Park. There will be concessions in the park and live entertainment throughout the weekend. There will be Canal Boat tours and other fun activities at the C&O Canal Basin. The Town Museum will be open both Saturday and Sunday from 1 – 4 pm.

The 93rd annual South Mountain Fair is going on now through August 22nd in Arendtsville, Adams County.  Free nightly entertainment in the auditorium, fireworks display Thursday evening, antique tractor and farm machinery parade Saturday evening.  Admission for the fair is $7 (unlimited carnival rides). There is also free parking.

Cluggy’s Family Amusement Center is having a water battle on their outside Laser Tag course on Saturday, Aug. 22nd from 12-1 pm. Bring your own water guns and they will supply the water!

Ongoing

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire at Mount Hope Estate returns this Saturday, Aug. 22 & Sunday Aug. 23 with the theme Pyrate Invasion. The Faire features costumed characters, themed entertainment, music, dancing, 90 shows daily, 22 royal kitchens, artisan merchants, and handcrafted wares. Mount Hope Estate is located in Northern Lancaster County at 2775 Lebanon Road, Manheim, PA. The event is rain or shine.  Gates open 11 am and close at 8 pm.

A Miniature Train rides the rails at Norlo Park, 3050 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville on Saturdays. It is open to riders of all ages. The train, complete with a cattle car and caboose, is FREE to ride on Saturdays weather permitting from 1 PM to 4 PM throughout Summer & Fall!

Cumberland Drive-In Theatre, 3290 Ritner Highway, Newville Aug. 21 – Aug. 23. First Feature The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (PG-13)  Second Feature Fantastic Four (PG-13) Gates open at 7 p.m. First Feature begins at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Michael’s Kids Club is every Saturday from 10 am – Noon for ages 3 and up. For $2 your child can make a seasonal craft for 30 minutes while you shop!  On Saturday, August 22nd the children will be making a bookmark. Sign up at Classes & Events | Michaels Stores.

North Square Farmers Market, 50 N. Main Street, Chambersburg continues on Saturday, August 22nd from 8 a.m. to noon.  Over twenty local vendors will offer local produce as well as cheeses, breads, fresh-cut flowers, baked goods, handmade soaps, & MORE. Children ages 3 -12 can sign up for POP (Power of Produce) Club.  Members receive $2 in tokens per market visit to be used on produce or vegetable plant.
