Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend in & beyond Shippensburg!

SHIPPENSBURG

On Saturday, August 6 from 10 AM – 4 PM, Videres Imagery will be at the Thought Lot doing photo shoots.  For more information, see the Facebook event HERE.

On Sunday, August 7, The Thought Lot will be featuring Cleveland’s Ottawa with local band B-Sides opening the show.  No tickets needed for the 7 PM show.

Shippensburg Comedy Club’s next show is Saturday, August 6 with Moody McCarthy headlining at 8 PM. Tickets $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

Cumberland Valley Hit Men will be holding its 2nd annual FREE youth football camp August 6th from 9 AM – 1 PM at the Hitmen game field, 3 White House Rd.  The camp is free with registration upon arrival for ages 8-13 years old.  Pizza provided by Papa John’s will be served to all participants following the camp.

CHAMBERSBURG/FAYETTEVILLE

On Friday, August 5th, the Greene Township Park, 996 Elevator Street will host a Summer Soaker & Movie Night!  The water bounce event begins at 2 PM and will end around 8 PM.  Minions will be shown on the big screen when the sun goes down, approximately 8:30 PM.  Don’t forget to bring your blankets and lawn chairs.  Kids of all ages can bounce all day long for just $5 and the movie is free!  AE Bounce House will be providing the bounce houses.  Three bounce houses will have water running through them.  The Giant Tropical Wave Slide will be set up as well!  Food will be available by the Mount Parnell Lions Club and Shiver Shack (shaved ice).  Bring your bikes for the bike wash.

There will be an End of Summer Family Fun Fest at Sweet Frog, 1752 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg on August 5 (4PM – 8PM) and August 6 (1 PM – 8 PM). There will be bounce houses, face painting, live music, and more!

A Miniature Train rides the rails at Norlo Park, 3050 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville on Saturdays. It is open to riders of all ages. The train, complete with a cattle car and caboose, is FREE to ride on Saturdays weather permitting from 1 PM to 4 PM throughout Summer & Fall!

North Square Farmers Market, 50 N. Main Street, Saturday, August 6 from 8 AM to NoonChildren ages 3 -12 can sign up for POP (Power of Produce) Club.  Members receive $2 in tokens per market visit to be used on produce or vegetable plant.

GREENCASTLE

This Saturday, August 6 is the Greencastle Sportman’s Association Ox Roast.  Sliced & ground Ox Sandwiches, Country Fried Ham Sandwiches,  Fresh Cut Fries, Homemade Soups.  Antietam Diary Ice Cream & Funnel Cakes are for purchase during supper hours.  Silver Eagle Band playing during evening hours.  Kids Games & more!  This is the first of three Saturdays of August. Noon – 9 PM.

Greencastle celebrates Old Home Week August 6 – 13th.  Breakfast, 5K, antique & collectible show, live music, motorcycle show, flower show, art exhibit, parade, basketball tournament, fireworks, and MORE.  See their website for full schedule.

NEWVILLE/CARLISLE

Barnitz United Methodist Church is having a Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday, August 6.  Registration 6 – 8 AM.  Fishing start time 8 AM.  Ages 2 – 12. The church is situated on the banks of the Yellow Breeches Creek On Church Lane (off Pine Rd). This is a free event.  Food available for purchase.

The Carlisle Truck Nationals is this weekend at the Carlisle Fairgounds.  Bring the entire family to see 2,000 trucks of all sizes Friday through Sunday.  Lowered mini trucks, lifted 4x4s, chromed out big rigs, SUV’s, custom vans and the perfectly restored classics.   Daily admission is $12 on Friday and Saturday.  Sunday special of $7.  Kids ages 12 and under are admitted free but there is a fee for rides and games.

This weekend’s double-feature at Cumberland Drive-in is “Suicide Squad” and “Jason Bourne.”  Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is located at 3290 Ritner Highway, Newville.  Gates open at 7 PM.  First Feature begins at approximately 8:45 PM.

Annual Penn Township Fire Company Fireman’s Fair will be held August 4, 2016 to August 6, 2016. Food service starts at 5 PM. Games open at 6 PM. There will be an ice cream eating contest on Friday evening at 7:30 PM and Fireworks on Saturday at 10 PM.

GETTYSBURG/BIGLERVILLE

The 94th Annual South Mountain Fair will be held August 2-6, 2016. Admission price: $7 person. Children under 36 inches tall admitted free. Unlimited carnival rides are included in the paid admission price! Children under 36″ tall ride for free. All entertainment is also included in the admission.  2016 Fair hours are: Tuesday through Friday – 4 PM to 10 PM. Saturday – 1 PM to 10 PM.

The Ford Motor Company Fund is sponsoring a day of FREE educational programs at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center Saturday, August 6.  The event is a collaboration of Ford and the Gettysburg Foundation and Gettysburg National Military Park. The public is welcome to come and enjoy an activity-filled day for adults and children alike, with free admission to the Cyclorama, Film and Museum, along with other special events held only on this day.

MECHANICSBURG

Ashcombe Farm & Greenhouses is having a Butterfly Day on August 6, 2016 from 9 AM – 3 PM.  Children’s activities, fun displays, fairy garden classes and a butterfly release at 12 noon in the gardens.  Ashcombe is located at 906 W. Grantham Rd, Mechanicsburg.  View the schedule of events HERE.

Williams Grove Speedway will feature 410 Sprints & Nouse Signs & Graphics, 358 Sprint Car Summer Series on August 5th. Gates open at 6 PM, race at 8 PM.  Gate admission is $14 for Adults and $10 for youth ages 13 – 20.  Children under 12 are always free.

MANHEIM

The 36th annual season of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire at Mount Hope Estate kicks off on August 6, 2016 and continues every Saturday and Sunday and Labor Day Monday through October 30, 2016. The Faire features costumed characters, themed entertainment, music, dancing, 90 shows daily, 22 royal kitchens, artisan merchants, and handcrafted wares. Mount Hope Estate is located in Northern Lancaster County at 2775 Lebanon Road, Manheim, PA. The event is rain or shine.  Gates open 11 AM and close at 8 PM. Each of the 13 weekends will showcase a different theme.   Aug. 6 & 7 – Grand Arrival.
