Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about Labor Day weekend!

SHIPPENSBURG

DSCN1161Middle Spring Watershed Association Stream Awareness Day will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016. It begins at 9 AM and ends sometime after Noon with the end of the duck derby and prize distributions. All activities will occur between the bridges in Middle Spring where Middle Spring Road and Maclays Mill road intersect (200 Middle Spring Road, Shippensburg).  Tickets for each duck are $4. Hot dogs and light refreshments available for sale.

 

The Demolition Derby will be held at the Shippensburg Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 3th 7:30 PM.  Admission is $10, Children 6 & under admitted free!  Bring lawn chairs or blankets.  Food is available for purchase.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is offering two special fishing opportunities to entice adults and kids to fish on Labor Day, September 5!  The first is a $1 license for adult residents and non-residents. The second opportunity is the Mentored Youth Panfish Day.

MERCERSBURG

Stoner’s Dairy Farm and Corn Maze in Mercersburg offers plenty of weekend Fall activities for any age!  This year their corn maze is Jungle themed.  Fall Corn Maze Weekends continue through Sunday, October 30th. Hours are Saturday Noon – 10 PM & Sunday Noon – 5 PM, and open Friday nights beginning Friday, September 16th; 7 PM – 10 PM.

CHAMBERSBURG

This coming Sunday, Sept 4th, Red Bridge Roller Rink is having All Night Skate. It starts Sunday at 9 PM and ends Monday morning at 6 AM.  This skate is for kids that are 14 years old and UNDER only!  The cost is; admission $20, skates $6. Admission price also gets you a ticket for food (hot food item, drink and snack). door prizes.

CARLISLE

McLain Celtic Festival will take place on September 3, 2016, 9 AM – 5 PM in Carlisle.  Enjoy a day of family-oriented fun with Scottish and Welsh heritage organizations, re-enactors, Celtic entertainment, dancers, vendors selling Irish and Scottish goods & food, Highland athletics, bag pipes, border collie demonstrations, and more. Mini-Highland athletics just for kids.  Admission is $10.  Children under 10 are free.  The festival location is Two Mile House, 1189 Walnut Bottom Rd., Carlisle.

HARRISBURG

Join the festivities at Bass Pro Shops for the last celebration of the summer at the Hometown Festival Sept 3 & 4 from Noon – 5 PM.  There will be activities, crafts, food, prizes, & giveaways!

A Miniature Train rides the rails at Norlo Park, 3050 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville on Saturdays. It is open to riders of all ages. The train, complete with a cattle car and caboose, is FREE to ride on Saturdays weather permitting from 1 PM to 4 PM throughout Summer & Fall

The 36th annual season of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire at Mount Hope Estate continues every Saturday and Sunday and Labor Day Monday through October 30, 2016. The Faire features costumed characters, themed entertainment, music, dancing, 90 shows daily, 22 royal kitchens, artisan merchants, and handcrafted wares. Mount Hope Estate is located in Northern Lancaster County at 2775 Lebanon Road, Manheim, PA. The event is rain or shine.  Gates open 11 AM and close at 8 PM. Each of the 13 weekends will showcase a different theme.

This weekend at Cumberland Drive-in is Pete’s Dragon and Finding Dory on Friday and Saturday.  Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is located at 3290 Ritner Highway, Newville.  Gates open at 7 PM.  First Feature begins at approximately 8:10 PM.  Sunday is a triple feature – Pete’s Dragon, Finding Dory, Independence Day.

The National Aquarium offers Half-Price Friday Nights year around!  Half-Price Friday Nights is brought to you by M&T Bank. Visitors receive half-off admission pricing on Friday evenings after 5 PM.  Tickets are available online or Friday evenings on-site.  Half price Adult = $19.95; Half price Child (ages 3 – 11) = $12.45; Seniors (65+) = $17.45.
