Shippensburg

The Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the annual Bloom Festival on May 6 from 9AM – 3PM! The Festival takes place rain or shine in the Borough Parking lot (Burd Street), across from the Shippensburg Police Department.  Admission is FREE.  The festival includes craft, retail, & food vendors, local produce, plant & flower sales, music, children’s activities and more.

Shippensburg Downtown Organizations Investing Together’s Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest will run from 8AM to Noon on May 6.  Registration for the contest has closed.

The Shippensburg Public Library Duck Derby will be held on May 6 at 1PM at the Branch Creek Bridge.  Pick up Duck Certificates at the Public Library. 1 duck for $5 and a 6-pack for $20. Cash prizes of $250, $100 and $50 will be awarded to the first three to cross the finish line!

Phi Sigma Kappa on Saturday will host it’s “My School Color Run” beginning at 10AM at the SU Rec Complex on Lancaster Drive.  You can still sign up on race day HERE.

The Little Princess Playhouse returns May 6 with productions of Alice in Wonderland and Princess ClubThe playhouse will present the double-feature at 10AM and again at 11:30AM in Stewart Hall, Old Main Drive, Shippensburg.  Tickets for the double feature are $5 and will be available at the door but seating is limited.

Maple Lane Nursery is having an Open House on May 6.  Everything will be 10% off on Saturday from 8AM – 5PM!  Door Prizes and Refreshments.  Maple Lane has a large selection of perennials, trees, and shrubbery.

Harmony Music Festival is a 7 hour musical extravaganza on May 6 at the Thought Lot.  Lineup: 5:00pm – Evan Crider; 5:30pm – Matt Wheeler; 6:00pm – Cody Wilt; 6:30pm – Shawan and the Wonton; 7:00pm – The Flat Wheels; 7:40pm – Run The Willow; 8:25pm – The Herd of Main Street ; 9:10pm – Colt Wilbur Band; Tickets: Full Day $20 – Half Day $10 – Single Act $6.  Buy one ticket and get one free with your student id on event night.

Newville/Carlisle

Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is open Friday, Saturday, AND Sunday this week!  Showing May 5 – May 7 will be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Beauty and the Beast. Gates open at 7 p.m.  First feature begins at approximately 8:15 p.m.

Downtown Carlisle’s First Friday events return on May 5 with an Art Walk.

The Amani Festival is a one-day multi-cultural festival on May 6, 9AM – 5PM in downtown Carlisle.  Amani means “peace” in Swahili. The festival will include over 40 vendors (food, community service agencies, arts & crafts), local businesses, live entertainment and music, a children’s alley, and more.

Roxbury

This Saturday May 6th from 7-10 PM, The Blue Mountain Skating Rink will be celebrating their 75th Anniversary. Admission is only 75 cents ($1 for skate rentals).  Bring along any pictures you can find from the skating rink in the past 75 years.

Chambersburg

The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary will host its 26th annual fabric fair at North Pointe Business Center, 2620 Philadelphia Avenue in Chambersburg.  Wednesday, May 3rd 8am – 8pm; Thursday, May 4th 8am – 4pm; Friday, May 5th 8am – 8pm; Saturday, May 6th 8am – 12pm.

Chambersburg’s First Friday kicks off May 5 with A Taste of Downtown from 5-8PM.  Enjoy DJ Scott Douglas on the square.  Salsa on the Square with dance professional José Ricardo.  Several downtown businesses will have extended hours, special offers and giveaways.  Guided Historic Walking Tours at 5:30 and 6PM starting at the Chambersburg Heritage Center & Gift Shop.  The Foundry artists co-op (100 South Main Street) will offer a free make & take craft for children, as well as the opening of a Young Artists Exhibit.

Shalom Christian Academy’s 40th annual Dutchfest will be held on May 5 & 6, 2017 and includes FUN for the entire family.  Free admission and parking.  There is a small fee for children’s activities. Friday, May 5 (5PM – 9PM); Saturday, May 6 (7:30AM – 2PM).  Highlights include:  Food; Auction events; Craft & Vendor show;  Children’s activities, bounce houses, and petting zoo; 5K Run/1K Fun Walk for the whole family; Plant sale; Used book sale.

Chambersburg Noontime Lions Club is having their 20th Annual Trout Derby Saturday, May 6 & Sunday, May 7.  Read more HERE.

7th annual Blues, Brews & Barbecue benefits the Capitol Theatre Center.  On May 6, 1PM – 7 PM, rain or shine, outside at 159 S. Main St., Chambersburg, live bands, barbecue, beer and wine.  $10 admission, $7 for designated driver.  No pets.  For information and tickets, go here.

The Little Mermaid “Under the Sea” Party takes place on May 7 at 4PM at the Wood Center, Captitol Theater.  Tickets $10.  Light refreshments, photos with dancers, “Little Mermaid” dances performed in black light.

Fairfield/Gettysburg

The East Coast Exotic Animal Rescue is offering the public FREE Admission on its season opening weekend.  On May 6 and 7, visit the animal sanctuary from 11AM to 5PM for FREE.  In addition to their 40 species of animals (carnivores, birds, reptiles), there will be games, face painting, food, and educational presentations.  This exotic animal rescue located at 320 Zoo Road, Fairfield, PA is a 501c3 Non Profit animal sanctuary and not a zoo.

Hagerstown, MD

Monkey Joe’s in Hagerstown is celebrating their 7th Anniversary with $7 admission on Sunday, May 7, 2017.  Each child (paid admission) will get a chance to spin the prize wheel.  There is also a summer pass sale as well as a special price for party bookings.

Hagerstown Regional Airport and the Hagerstown Aviation Museum will be offering a behind-the-scenes look at Hagerstown-built aircraft during this year’s first Open Airplane Afternoon, Sunday May 7, 1PM – 4PM at Hagerstown Regional Airport.  FREE admission (donations accepted).

Washington D.C.

More than 40 embassies will open their doors to DC visitors and residents Saturday May 6, 2017.  From 10 AM – 4 PM, participants can travel the world as they experience the food, art, dance, fashion, and music of different countries.  The Around the World Embassy Tour is the signature event of Passport DC, an annual celebration of international culture in Washington DC.  Admission is free.
