What’s Happening | March 9, 10, & 11

Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend in South Central PA.

Shippensburg/Newburg

The Spring musical at The Shippensburg Area Senior High School is The Music Man. The performances are scheduled for March 8 & 9 at 7PM and March 10 at 2PM and 7PM in the High School Auditorium.  Ticket prices are $10 Adult ($11.34 with service fee), $8 Student/Senior ($9.27 with service fee), Children 4 and under are free.  Tickets came be purchased at the door or pick your own seats online HERE.

The Spring Extravaganza at the Beistle Company will take place Saturday March 10 from 8AM – 1PM.  Food, Baked Goods, Floral Arrangements, Seasonal Decor, Small Businesses, Antiques, Wood Crafts vendors and more.  The event will be held indoors at 1 Beistle Plaza, Shippensburg.

Mommy and Me or Grandma and Me Paint Day is March 10, 10AM at The Local Gathering.  Snacks and drinks will be provided. $25 per one adult and includes one child; $5 extra per child under 17. Adult only price is $25.  Create a memory with an easy to paint owl painting with the kids.

The annual Lawilowan American Indian Festival is an authentic Native American pow-wow where tribes visit, meet, dance and trade goods.  The family oriented festival will be held from 10AM to 5PM Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Shippensburg University’s Recreation Center.  Grand Entry is at noon.  Throughout the event, you will see Native Americans dressed in their traditional regalia, and enjoy drumming, singing and dancing. The event also includes Native Crafts and Vendors, Native American Cuisine, Story Telling and Native American Flutists.  Admission fee is $5 per person and free for those under the age 7 and over 65.  Bring a chair to assure you have a seat.

 

Enjoy a Day on your own Bus Trip to explore Philadelphia on March 10.  Historic District, Shopping, Art Museums, Food Tours, Legoland, Walking Tours, Philadelphia Flower Show (requires separate admission) are all possibilities. Departure time is 6AM (return time 10PM) from Shippensburg Memorial Park.

The Long’s Family Donuts Truck will be set up at West End Office Complex on Saturday, March 10 from 8AM – 2PM.  Donuts can be pre-ordered by texting Andrea at 717-552-7495 or messaging the Long’s Family Catering & Donuts Business Page.  Payment can be made the day of the event (Cash or Card accepted)

Newburg UMC (203 N. High Street) will hold its annual Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, March 10 beginning at 3PM.  The proceeds benefit their youth ministry.  All You Can Eat Spaghetti, Salad Bar (45+ items), and dessert bar.  Adults $10; Children $5 (age 4-10); 3 & under free.

 

Grace B. Luhrs University Elementary School Annual Spaghetti Dinner & Silent Auction will be held on Saturday, March 10 from 4PM – 7PM at Kriner Dining Facility Shippensburg University. Silent Auction includes items donated by families & local businesses (Steelers & Penguins tickets, a week vacation at Deep Creek Lake and much more).  Menu:  Spaghetti, meatballs, sauce, salad, bread & dessert.  Adults – $8; Children – $4 (age 6-11); Under 5 is free.

Roxbury

The Blue Mountain Skating Rink is located 1 mile west of Roxbury, PA on Rt 641.  The roller skating rink is open for public skating on Friday evenings from 7-9 PM.

Carlisle

Taste of Carlisle is Sunday March 11, 11AM – 1:30PM hosted by the Carlisle Area Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Carlisle Association.  The best of the best from local restaurants, pubs, caterers, cafes, bakeries, and chocolatiers to offer taste samplings to attendees.  The event is held at the Carlisle Expo Center.  Ticket information HERE.

Chambersburg

The Capitol Theater will host a Comedy & Magic Spectacular on Saturday, March 10 at 7PM.  Bring your family and friends to this event of magic and laughter presented by the Exchange Club of Chambersburg.  Tickets range from $17-$22.

Disney’s Beauty & the Beast, Jr. will be performed by the Cumberland Valley School of Music and Wilson College on March 9 (7PM) and March 10 (2PM).  The performance will feature the talents of local children ages 8 to 17. For tickets, go here.

Waynesboro

The 35th annual Waynesboro Hospital Health Fair takes place at Waynesboro Area Senior High School, 550 East 2nd Street on Saturday, March 10 from 7:30AM – 11AM.  This annual community event features health-education activities and information, children’s activities, prizes, and giveaways. Also offered are
beneficial free screenings.

Greencastle

Rescue Hose Co. volunteers will present their 83rd Hobo Minstrels entitled “A Hometown Minstrel,” with classic songs and jokes, at 7:30PM Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 8, 9 and 10, in the Greencastle-Antrim High School auditorium.  Tickets are $6/person. Children 10 and under will be admitted for $3. Tickets will be available at the door each evening.  Proceeds benefit the Rescue Hose Co. Inc.

On Saturday, March 10, Shady Grove Troop 95 Scouting units (Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venture Crew) will host an “all-you-can-eat” spaghetti dinner in the Greencastle-Antrim high school cafeteria from 5 to 7PM.  Proceeds benefit Scouting activities.

Harrisburg

Admission to The State Museum is free on Charter Day, Sunday, March 11, Noon – 5PM and includes visits to the Planetarium, the Curiosity Connection, and galleries. Free tickets are required for the Planetarium and the Curiosity Connection.  The Museum Store will also be offering special discounts.

Hershey

Zoo America has $6 Fridays where all visitors get in for $6 every Friday during the winter through March 23, 2018.

York

The York RV Show is March 9 -11 at the York Expo Center.  There are over 75 exhibitors related to the Recreational Vehicle lifestyle.  Pop-up campers, truck campers, travel trailers, fifth wheels, motor homes, and park models of all sizes!  There will also be fun prizes.  Tickets are $8 at the door (or show this coupon.)

Maryland Events

The 48th Annual Maple Syrup Festival will take place March 10 & 11, 17 & 18 in the William Houck Lake area of Cunningham Falls State Park from 10AM – 2PM each day.  Pancakes, sausage, and maple syrup products will be for sale (cash only). $3 admission donation for adults, $2 admission donation for youth group members, children in safety seats are free.  A maple syrup making demonstration will start every hour.  Kids can enjoy free games, stories and crafts in a large, heated tent. Live music will be provided by local bands.
