What’s Happening | March 2, 3, & 4

Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend in South Central PA.

Shippensburg

Katie’s Place Thrift Shop is having its next monthly sale March 1 – 3, 8AM – Noon.  The store is located at the old Martin’s Bakery Building (go down the hill to the bottom of the building) at the corner of S. Penn and E. Garfield Streets in Shippensburg.

The SHAPE Gallery will be showcasing the artwork of students from the AP Studio class at Shippensburg Area Senior High School this month. The exhibition, “Closure,” will open with a reception this Friday evening, March 2, from 6PM until 8PM.  As always, the SHAPE Gallery and receptions are free and open to the public.

Enjoy an adult night out at the Southampton Township Cumberland County (STCC) Multi-Purpose Center Friday, March 2 with Hops & Humor Comedy Night with Earl David Reed.  Please contact the STCC Park and Rec Office to purchase your ticket ($25/person).

The annual Reading Rainbow event sponsored by the Shippensburg Kids Events Committee will be held Saturday, March 3.  The event will take place at the Shippensburg Firefighters Activity Center, 33 West Orange Street from 8:15AM – 12:30PM.  Admission is FREE!  There will be fun activities suitable for children in PreK through 5th grade.  Activities include face painting, caricatures by Kent Roberts, live music from the Shippensburg Middle School Jazz Band, a Creatures Great and Small visit and more! All proceeds benefit the Shippensburg Elementary and Intermediate School​ Libraries.

The Presbyterian Church located at 12 South Prince Street is having an Organ Recital Sunday, March 4, 3PM.  It is presented by the American Guild of Organists The Chambersburg Chapter.  Everyone is welcome!  

Roxbury

The Blue Mountain Skating Rink is located 1 mile west of Roxbury, PA on Rt 641.  The roller skating rink is open for public skating on Friday evenings from 7-9PM.

Waynesboro

Mainstreet Waynesboro’s annual Chocolate Extravaganza will take place March 3 at the Waynesboro Country Club. The first-ever dinner at the event will be seven courses and chocolate themed, from 5:30 to 7PM. The Chocolate Extravaganza will then continue from 7 to 9PM.  Tickets cost $75 for the dinner and the Chocolate Extravaganza, and $25 apiece for the Chocolate Extravaganza only.

Mercersburg

An “Animals from Africa” program will be presented by Critters and Conservation on Sunday, March 4 from 3-4PM.  It is a live and interactive animal program held at the James Buchanan High School auditorium.  Come see and learn about birds, mammals, reptiles, and invertebrates and their habitats, diets, behavior, basic biology, importance in the food web, and so much more. You will have the opportunity to pet an animal at the end of the show.  There is a $4/adult and $2/school age child fee for the animal program.

Greencastle

Green Grove Gardens’ Cabin Fever Craft Show is Saturday, March 3 from 9AM to 3PM.  Craft vendors with handcrafted items, seasonal items, and arts.  In addition, food and door prizes.  There is no parking or admission fee.  Green Grove Gardens is located at 1032 Buchanan Trail E, Greencastle.

 

Carlisle

The Mid-Atlantic Reptile Expo takes place at the Carlisle Expo Center on March 3, 9AM -4PM.  It is a sales and educational event geared toward reptile & amphibian enthusiasts.  Entrance tickets are $6 for all guests 13 years of age and older, guests 12 and under are free. Tickets are available at the door.

Harrisburg

Find everything to beautify, update and maintain your home during the annual Pennsylvania Home Show March 1 – 4 at the PA Farm Show Complex.  Thursday Noon to 8PM; Friday & Saturday 10AM to 8PM; Sunday 10AM to 6PM.  Tickets $10; children 12 and under free with paid adult admission.  Parking is free.

Maple Sugar Festival will be held Sunday March 4 at Fort Hunter Park, 5300 North Front Street from Noon – 4PM.  As winter ends and spring begins the maple sap begins to flow.  Maple syrup making, taste tests, Native American sugar making, tree tapping, and candy making.  Many children’s activities and delicious PA maple products are for sale. This event is FREE for everyone.

The 16th Annual Pennsylvania Horse World Expo will feature the nation’s leading equestrian clinicians, performers, entertainers, hundreds of vendors, equines of all breeds, seminars, and shopping at the Farm Show Complex March 1-4.  Daily general admission ticket includes all activities except Theatre Equus. There is no additional fee for seminars or demonstrations.

Theater Equus is a professionally choreographed and scripted show in which humans and horses partner perform remarkable feats of daring and beauty. Theatre Equus will be held the evenings of March 2 and 3 in conjunction with Horse World Expo. Geared to all ages, Theatre Equus is an evening of family entertainment starring horses. Performances by about thirty of the country’s most highly trained horses are accompanied by music, enhanced lighting and narration.  Tickets required ($15 – $27).

Next Generation Kids Weekend is March 3 &4, Noon – 5PM at Bass Pro Shops Harrisburg.  Free Photo Digital Download, Craft, Casting Buckets, First 100 kids to complete all activities will receive a Zipper Fish Pouch.  Kid’s Fishing Workshop “Think Like A Fish” Sat. March 3 (ONLY) 2:30PM.  First 50 kids to attend will receive a Next Generation 2018 Patch.

York

This weekend, March 2-4 is the Pennsylvania Garden Show of York.  Vendors offer homemade goods ranging from lawn and garden ornaments to organic soaps. The event at the York Expo Center also features games and food.  For ticket info including prices visit HERE.

Hershey

Zoo America has $6 Fridays where all visitors get in for $6 every Friday during the winter through March 23, 2018.

Hagerstown, MD

Try Hockey For Free runs from 8-10AM at Hagerstown Sports & Ice Complex.  Register for the hockey for free here.  A FREE public skate is from 3-4:50PM where youth ages 4-12 can skate for free (no charge for rental skates).
