Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend in South Central PA!

Shippensburg

The Greyhound Foundation will hold a fundraising 5K and 1K race, walk event from 4 to 8PM, Friday, April 27, at Shippensburg Township Park, 304 Britton Road.

Book Sale this weekend at McLean Hall, Shippensburg University. Books are used, in great condition and priced $1 or less! Dates and times show below.

Katie’s Place Thrift Shop, corner of S. Penn and E. Garfield Streets is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday April 26, 27, 28.

Shippensburg Fly Fishing Club is hosting their Children’s Fishing Derby on April 28, 8AM – Noon at Rowe Run Creek in Orrstown.  Registration starts at 7AM.  All children ages 3 – 12 are welcome to participate in this free event.  Prizes will be awarded for tagged fish caught and turned in before Noon.  Food and refreshments will be available for purchase.

Annual ShipShape Day is Saturday, April 28, 9AM – Noon.  Volunteers are needed to spruce up Shippensburg. Registration at Shippensburg Firefighters Activity Center begins at 8:30AM. Lunch will be served.

Cumberland Valley Hitmen will take on the Moshannon Valley Vikings April 28 at Veterans Memorial Park, 7PM.  FREE admission and concession stand will be open.

Blue Mountain BIC will have their annual Chicken BBQ & Bake Sale on Saturday, April 28, beginning at 10AM.  The BBQ/Bake Sale is at Lurgan Township “Roxbury” Lions Club.  Leg & Thigh: $4/Dinner: $8 (dinner includes – chicken, baked potato with butter & sour cream, coleslaw, applesauce, roll with butter).

Newville/Carlisle

The Cumberland Valley Tractor Pullers Association is planning an exciting year of tractor and truck pulling!  The 2018 Pull season will kick off on April 28, 6:30PM.  Admission is $8 for adults with children under 12 free.  The Tractor/Truck Pulls are held at the Newville Lions Fairgrounds on Route 533. Concession Stand available.

Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is open Friday and Saturday this weekend.  Showing will be Avengers: Infinity War and “Wrinkle In Time.”  Gates open at 7PM.  First feature begins at approximately 8:10PM.  Admission: $8 Adults, $4 Children ages 3-12, free for Children Under 3.  You may reserve your space here.

Mt. Holly Springs

On Saturday, April 28, 7AM – 11AM is a Children’s Trout Derby at Mt Holly Fish & Game Pond for children 3-12 years of age. Parents are not required to have a license or trout stamp while assisting children. Pond will be stocked by Mt. Holly Lions Club & Mt. Holly Fish and Game Association with 300+ trout.  Admission is free.  Refreshments available. Rain or shine!

Chambersburg

Montessori Academy of Chambersburg’s annual indoor yard sale will be Saturday April 28, 7AM – Noon at 875 Ragged Edge Road. Stuff a bag of clothes for $5.

Celebrate Spring Into History 2018 with a free tour of the Old Jail on April 28, 10AM – 4PM.  Last tour must begin before 3PM, as it takes about one hour.  Gift shop and genealogy library will be open as well. There is a $5 fee for non members to use the library.

C.V. Antique Engine & Machinery Assoc., Inc.’s Spring Fling will be held April 28 & 29. Cumberland Valley Antique Engine & Machinery’s annual Spring Fling event offers fun for the entire family including a daily tractor parade, tractor pulls, toy show, an operating blacksmith shop, and an indoor & outdoor flea market.

Greencastle

Camp Joy El is having their Joy El Jubilee on Saturday, April 28 from 10AM to 4PM. No admittance fees. Activities are free. Food vendors and chicken barbecue from 11AM – 3:30PM.  The event is a one-day, public event that gives you the chance to try out camp activities.  Volunteers and staff members provide events such as hayrides, go-karts, craft vendors, zipline, archery, kids games, giant swing, canoeing, bake sale, face painting, and mini golf. Door prizes.

Waynesboro

Renfrew Institute’s Earth Celebration Day and Festival of Art is a full day of discovery, education, music, and art on April 28, 11AM – 4PM.  See the Earth Day flier for details.   Held in conjunction with the 13th annual Recycle/Reuse Yard Sale, scheduled from 9AM to 3PM in the picnic area of the park.  

Biglerville/Gettysburg

Visit Oyler’s Organic Farms & Market (400 Pleasant Valley Rd, Biglerville) for Spring on the Farm.  On April 28, 11AM – 2PM, see baby animals, enjoy children’s seed planting, butter making and children’s crafts.  Sit on a tractor, play in the corn box and more.  Ready to eat made from scratch food items will be available to purchase for lunch.  Be sure to stop by for an interactive kid’s music activity at Noon.

Visit Hollabaugh farms for their first annual Bees n’ Blossoms festival, April 28 & 29, Noon – 5PM.  The event features wagon rides to orchards($), guided photo walks at 1, 2, and 3 (Sunday only), “Beauty and the Bees” Fairytale Trail, bounce house for kids ($), games and activities for kids, informational sessions about bees, pollination, and other pests on the farm, samples and displays from local vendors, saxophone quartet (Saturday only), local food truck, make your own flower planter station, and more!  The festival is free to the public with free parking and will be held rain or shine.  Please note that a few activities are pay as you go.  On Saturday, April 28 from 9AM-11AM, they will be hosting an All You Can Eat pancake breakfast.

Come to the Gettysburg Farmers’ Market on Lincoln Square on Saturdays from 7AM-Noon.  Opening day is April 28!

Mechanicsburg/Camp Hill

Stroll through downtown Camp Hill on April 28 from 9AM – 4PM for their Spring Fling.  Businesses will feature a variety of specials, promotions, demonstrations, and refreshments throughout the day.

The annual Touch-a-Truck Day, sponsored by the Hampden Township Volunteer Fire Company is April 28.  Youngsters can touch, honk and climb on the many vehicles that will be on display. Vehicles on display will include a fire truck, police car, ambulance, backhoe, tractor-trailer and a dump truck.  Admission to the Touch-a-Truck event is 2 canned goods, which will be donated to the New Hope Ministries, or $5, per car load. Concessions will be available.  Location:  1200 Good Hope Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050

Harrisburg

Celebrate the natural wonder of the wetland at the 18th Annual Wetlands Festival from 10AM to 4PM on Saturday, April 28 at Wildwood Park in Harrisburg. Special guests include musicians Mark DeRose and Randy Heisley-Cato. Throughout the day enjoy wildlife exhibits, displays, walks, talks, as well as a great representation of local and regional environmental organizations. There is something for everyone.

Lancaster

Join Duke the Dragon and his royal friends for the Grand Opening Weekend at Dutch Wonderland, April 28 & 29, 10AM – 6PM.

Maryland Events

Alligator move out is this Saturday at 1PM at Catoctin Wildlife Preserve.  Stop in for a visit and see the american alligators return to the bayou.
