SHIPPENSBURG

Join the Shippensburg Chamber of Commerce for a Family Event at the Shippensburg Fairgrounds on Saturday, August 11. The Family Fun Day will be held from 11AM – 2PM and is a fun way for families to gain valuable information on programs available in our area. FREE Pizza, FREE Entertainment, & Giveaways! This is a rain or shine event for families and children.

The 10th Annual Blessing of the Backpacks will be held on Saturday, August 11 from 4PM – 7PM in Shippensburg. Many Shippensburg churches, local organizations and non-profits will come together at Memorial Lutheran Church to provide school supplies for area students. All events and activities are FREE including Dinner. Carnival Games to win School Supplies (every child will win); at 7PM Blessing of the Backpacks and Door Prizes.

Revival on the Hill is a three day revival event taking place at the Shippensburg Fairgrounds on August 10-12. Admission & parking are free. Fresh cooked BBQ and concessions will be available throughout the event. Children’s activities will be available.

CHAMBERSBURG

The CV Steam and Gas Show will be held near Twin Bridges Campground on August 10 – 12.  The event offers fun for the entire family including a daily tractor parade, live demonstrations, tractor pulls, live gospel and country music, and an indoor & outdoor flea market.

The Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter is hosting its sixth annual Dog Days of Summer Carnival from 11AM to 4PM Saturday, August 11, at the shelter on Letterkenny Road West.  The event will include games, food, fun and animals looking for a home; as well as a pitch burst, which is sponsored by Bell Insurance.  Participation in the games will be by a donation to the shelter.

North Square Farmers Market, 50 N. Main Street is Saturday, August 11 from 8AM to Noon.

Second Saturdays in the Park is August 11, 7PM at Chambers Fort Park.  Enjoy a FREE family-friendly movie, Wonder Woman at dusk. Guests are invited to bring blankets and chairs.  Rain location: Coyle Free Library.

Now through Saturday, August 11, is the Kid Closet Connection consignment sale of children’s clothing, baby items, toys, and more.  The sale is at The Chambersburg Mall from 10AM – 8PM Wednesday – Friday; 8AM – 4PM Saturday.

WAYNESBORO

Bring the kids to the Waynesboro Theatre for a special summer showing of Despicable Me 3 (PG) on August 11 at 11AM.  Admission is $4 and includes popcorn and soda. Tickets & details: waynesborotheatre.com

GREENCASTLE

Greencastle Sportsmen’s Ox Roast is August 11.  Food and entertainment (Brush Fire).  Food served from Noon – 9PM.

NEWVILLE/CARLISLE/MT. HOLLY SPRINGS

This weekend’s double-feature at Cumberland Drive-in is “The Meg” and “The Darkest Minds.Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is located at 3290 Ritner Highway, Newville.  Gates open at 7PM.  First Feature begins at approximately 8:45PM.

The 2018 Cumberland Ag Expo is going on now through August 11 at the Newville Lions Fairgrounds. There are dairy and animal exhibitions, shows, 4H presentations, children’s activities, food, music and more.  View the complete schedule here.

Stop by the Citizen’s Fire Co. Mt Holly Springs Carnival now through August 11 and enjoy great food, games and activities, live music and fun.

ORRTANNA/GETTYSBURG

Gettysburg Rocks is a bi-annual music festival, held in February and August.  This weekend August 10-12, over 130 live bands across multiple venues in the Gettysburg area. The event benefits Four Diamonds.  See the schedule/venues HERE.

Join Mister Ed’s Elephant Museum & Candy Emporium for “S’more Summer, Please!” a free end-of-summer celebration and school supply drive on Friday, Aug. 10, from 6-8PM.  Cozy up around the campfire for special s’mores made by you. As part of the United Way of Adams County’s Back to School Project, bring new school supplies with you and earn $1 for each item donated (up to five).

MECHANICSBURG/HARRISBURG

The Borough of Mechanicsburg will hold its annual Community Day at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Park on August 11, 10AM – 4PM.  This event is free and open to the public.  Several area churches will sponsor free admission to the pool, along with children’s activities including fun inflatable rides!  The event features music from local bands, fire trucks, Washington Fire Company chicken barbeque, food trucks, activities for all ages, and much more.  Visitors will also be able to experience a special exhibition of a baseball game from the 1860’s presented by the Keystone Baseball Club, complete with vintage uniforms.

The Annual Harrisburg Kennel Club Show will be held August 10-12.  It is part of the three day Keystone Cluster at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg.

The Governor’s Residence is celebrating its 50th anniversary on August 12 with a public block party.  Stop by between 1PM – 4PM (free admission) to enjoy a variety of Pennsylvania food truck vendors, including: MAD Sandwiches, Up In Smoke BBQ, Mad Dash Concessions, Sugar Whipped Bakery, PA Dairymen’s Association, and Appalachian Brewing Company – Harrisburg.  ZooAmerica will have animals on hand for kids to interact with and learn about. Famous rescue pup “Libre” will also be making an appearance, along with Speranza Rescue. WINK 104 will provide entertainment throughout the afternoon.  Free parking will be available in the 2100 block of N. 2nd Street, just north of the Maclay Street intersection. Security measures will be in place — all persons and personal belongings will be subject to search on Residence property.

MANHEIM

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is held on the grounds of the Mount Hope Estate.  With over 90 stage shows daily, 20 Royal Kitchens and scores of artisan merchants with handcrafted wares, the Renaissance Faire invites guests to immerse themselves in the 35-acre village and experience the fantasy.  Each weekend will showcase a unique theme:  Aug. 11 & 12 – World Carnival.

MARYLAND

Turner Bowling Centers are celebrating their 67th anniversary this weekend, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Celebrate on August 10, 11 & 12 and bowl for just $.67 a game! Duckpin & Tenpin lanes will be available for public/casual bowling all day & evening. All locations open at 1PM.  Read more HERE.

The Downtown Summer Slide Festival returns on August 11, 11AM – 4PM to Hagerstown! Grab a tube and ride the water slide, check out free kids activities, paddle boats on the lake at Hagerstown City Park, food trucks, and music to liven up the party atmosphere.

The Leitersburg Peach Festival is August 11 & 12 from 9AM – 5PM.  Family event featuring craft and art vendors, blacksmith and chainsaw carving demonstrations, fresh peaches and peach products from local orchards. Petting zoo, barrel train rides,  & climbing wall. Free Parking, Free Admission, Free Entertainment & Music.

The Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week is Sunday, August 12 – Saturday, August 18.  That means qualifying apparel and footwear $100 or less, per item, are exempt from the state sales tax.  Items included are Shirts, Slacks, Jeans, Dresses, Robes, Underwear, Belts, Shoes, Boots and the first $40 of a backpack or bookbag.  Accessory items, except for backpacks, are not included.
