Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend in South Central PA!

Shippensburg

Katie’s Place Thrift Shop, corner of S. Penn and E. Garfield Streets is open this weekend.  Shop Thursday, Friday, and Saturday April 9AM – Noon.

Shippensburg Fly Fishing Club is hosting their Children’s Fishing Derby on April 27, 8AM – Noon at Rowe Run Creek in Orrstown.  Registration starts at 7AM.  All children ages 3 – 12 are welcome to participate in this free event.  Prizes will be awarded for tagged fish caught and turned in before Noon.  Food and refreshments will be available for purchase.

This year the Cumberland Valley Rail-to-Trail Council’s 13th annual Race, Run, Ride & Ramble is joining forces with the Shippensburg Historical Society’s 3rd annual BrewFest to create the Cumberland Valley TrailFest. On Saturday, April 27, enjoy 2 running races, a hike, a bike ride and a kids run on the Cumberland Valley Rail-Trail. The event will include craft brews and spirits from local breweries and distilleries, food trucks, and live music from 11:30AM – 5PM!

The Annual ShipShape Day is Saturday, April 27, 9AM – Noon.  Volunteers are needed to spruce up Shippensburg. Registration at Shippensburg Firefighters Activity Center begins at 8:30AM. Lunch will be served beginning at 10:30AM.

Trio des Alpes, featuring Hana Kotkova on violin, Claude Hauri on cello and Corrado Greco on piano, will perform “Switzerland meets USA” at 3PM,  April 28 at Old Main Chapel at Shippensburg University.  This is a free concert.

Lurgan Greenhouse will offer Chicken BBQ every Saturday beginning April 27 through May 25.

Roxbury

There is public skating at the Blue Mountain Skating Rink on Friday evenings from 7-9PM. $4 admission and $1 skates. Children under 6 are free and non-skating adults are free as well.

Newville/Carlisle

The Cumberland Valley Tractor Pullers Association is planning an exciting year of tractor and truck pulling!  The 2019 Pull season will kick off on April 27, 6:30PM.  Admission is $10 for adults with children 12 and under free.  Concession Stand available.  The Pulls are held at the Newville Lions Fairgrounds on Route 533 with 6:30PM start times unless otherwise noted.

Spring Carlisle, the massive annual car show is going on now.  The event features a swap meet, car corral and three-day auction for collectors and classic car enthusiasts, plus thousands of vendors on 150 acres.  For details, click here.

Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is showing a Single Feature, Avengers: Endgame, this weekend, April 26 – 28.  Gates open at 7PM.  Single feature begins at approximately 8:25PM.  Friday and Saturday will have a 20 minute intermission.  Sunday will not have an intermission.

Chambersburg

Montessori Academy is hosting the First Annual Spring Fair on Saturday, April 27.  This event is open the local community and will include local food offerings along with presentations and activities centered around the theme “We’re All Abuzz About Bees.” The Spring Fair will take place from 11AM-3:30PM at Montessori Academy of Chambersburg, 875 Ragged Edge Road with free admission and activities. Additional offerings such as ceramic painting, an inflatable obstacle course, candle making and face painting will be available at various price points. Food trucks including Falafel Shack, Veroni Café, and Balkan Traditions will be on site.

Dairy Queen is offering 2 Sundaes or Dipped Cones for just $4 during their “2 For $4 Treat Nights!”  During the promotion from April 15 through May 19, Dairy Queen fans can order any two medium dipped cones or sundaes for just $4 after 8PM at participating locations.

The Kids Closet Connection is hosting its Spring/Summer Consignment Sale at the Chambersburg Mall this weekend, April 26 – 28.

Cumberland Valley Antique Engine & Machinery’s annual Spring Fling event on April 27 & 28 offers fun for the entire family including a daily tractor parade, tractor pulls, toy show, an operating blacksmith shop, and an indoor & outdoor flea market.

Franklin County CareerTech’s Landscaping & Horticulture students are currently operating their Teens and Greens greenhouse.  The greenhouse is located at 3015 Molly Pitcher Highway and offers a variety of annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs, and hanging baskets.

The Penn State Mont Alto Chorale will perform “Music from the Stage and Screen, Take Three,” on April 28 from 7 to 8PM in the General Studies Auditorium. The performance is open to the public and free of charge.

Join the Franklin County Visitors Bureau and author Cindy Ross in taking the “road less traveled” on Saturday, April 27, 1 to 3PM, at the Franklin County 11/30 Visitors Center. Ross, travel writer and author of The World is Our Classroom, is a modern adventurer, who with husband Todd, consciously chose to connect their children with the knowledge, culture, and beauty of the world around them.  The event, held in the second floor Great Room of the new Franklin County 11/30 Visitors Center, is free and open to the public. A post-presentation walking tour of downtown Chambersburg is also being offered at no charge.

Healthy Kids Day 2019 is taking place on Sunday, April 28 (1PM – 4PM) at Chambersburg Memorial YMCA. Healthy Kids Day is the Y’s largest national youth initiative, bringing children and families together through activities and education that inspire healthy habits in the summer months and year-round.  Free and open to the public.

Greencastle

Camp Joy El is having their Joy El Jubilee on Saturday, April 27 from 10AM to 4PM. Entrance is free. Activities are free. Parking is free.  There will be a chicken barbecue from 11AM – 3:30PM.  The Joy El Jubilee is a community event that showcases the programs in their ministry. Throughout the day, numerous activities take place all over the campground of Joy El. Volunteers and staff members provide events such as hayrides, go-karts, craft vendors, zipline, archery, kids games, giant swing, canoeing, bake sale, face painting, and mini golf.

Waynesboro

Renfrew Institute’s Earth Celebration Day and Festival of Art on Saturday, April 27 (11AM – 4PM) is a full day of discovery, education, music, and art. Held in conjunction with the event, the 14th annual Recycle/Reuse Yard Sale is scheduled from 9AM to 3PM in the picnic area of the park.

Biglerville/Gettysburg

All are welcome to Oyler’s Organic Farms for their free event, Spring on the Farm!  On Saturday, April 27, visit baby farm animals, enjoy children’s seed planting, butter making, children’s crafts, sit on a tractor, play in the corn box, and more!  Ready to eat made from scratch food items will be available to purchase for lunch.

Come to the Gettysburg Farmers’ Market on Lincoln Square on Saturdays from 7AM-Noon.  Opening day is April 27!

Mechanicsburg/Camp Hill

The annual Touch-a-Truck Day, sponsored by the Hampden Township Volunteer Fire Company, will be held from 10AM to 2PM on Saturday, April 27, at the Good Hope Station, 1200 Good Hope Road. A fire truck, police car, construction vehicles and many other vehicles will be on display for children to look at, explore, and possibly climb on and sit inside.  In addition to their favorite big rigs, there will be Farm Show milkshakes, food trucks, and child seat inspections.  Admission to the Touch-a-Truck event is 2 canned goods, which will be donated to New Hope Ministries, or $5, per car load.

Harrisburg

Explore Wildwood Park’s treasured wetlands with a day of free, fun, and educational activities on Saturday, April 27 from 10AM to 4PM.  Wetlands Festival will feature live animal programs, live music, displays, walks, talks, as well as a great representation of local and regional environmental organizations.

Lancaster
