What’s Happening | Labor Day Weekend 2020

Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about Labor Day weekend 2020!

SHIPPENSBURG

This year’s Cumberland Valley TrailFest (10k and 5k races and 25-mile bike ride) will take place on Friday, September 4, in conjunction with Ship First Friday. Ship First Fridays will include food trucks, a beer garden, and live music. Food by Uncle Eddie’s and Mama’s Dine and Dash. Beverages can be purchased from ABC, Maxie’s, and Castlerigg. Music by Vinegar Creek Constituency. Stop by Shippensburg Station at the corner of Fort and Earl Streets in Shippensburg from 4:30 PM – 9 PM to grab some food and drinks, then head downtown to check out the Shippensburg Art Market from 4 PM -8 PM at The Fora (10 E King Street). 


CHAMBERSBURG

Each year, farmers at Lesher Poultry Farm plant sunflowers in a different location around Chambersburg, PA. This year the sunflower field is located at 1471 New Franklin Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202.  There is an entrance to this year’s sunflower field on New Franklin Road. Please drive through the field lane and exit onto Guilford Springs Road.  The sunflowers are anticipated to be at peak bloom on the first weekend of September.

 


CHAMBERSBURG

Country Creek Produce Farm in partnership with the Franklin County Junior Fair Board will have 20+ different live animals to see on Saturday, September 5 and Monday, September 7 from 9 AM to 3 PM. The admission cost is $5 per family. Another fun activity available at the farm is Pick Your Own Flowers, just $5 for a small cup (recommended for kids) or $15 for a mason jar full of fresh-cut blooms. Country Creek Produce Farm is located at 3746 Etter Road, Chambersburg, PA.


CHAMBERSBURG

M&S Harley-Davidson is hosting a First Responders and Military Appreciation event on Saturday, September 5, from 10 AM to 3 PM. Go to the Facebook event here for details.

 


ST. THOMAS

Mt. Parnell Lions Club Ox Roast 2020 will be held on September 4 and September 5 as a carryout event only. At noon daily until sold out, you may buy sliced & ground beef by the pound and Beef Vegetable, Beef Noodle, and Beef Rice soups by the quart. All pick-ups will be at the St. Thomas Fire Company parking lot. (Rolls will be available for purchase.)

 


NEWVILLE

Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday on Labor Day Weekend.  There will be a Double Feature (Minions/Uncle Buck) on Friday and Saturday.  Sunday is a Triple Feature (Minions/Uncle Buck/Jurassic World) plus a customer appreciation Chicken BBQ ($5/meal:1/2 Chicken, Homemade Baked Beans, Macaroni Salad, Apple Sauce, Roll/Butter)!  Go here for more info.


NEWVILLE

Maple Lane Farm’s Corn Maze in Newville opens Saturday, September 5. This year the Corn Maze highlights the Newville fountain. The corn pit for young children is expected to be back as well. The farm has fun photo ops too! Maple Lane Farm is located at 150 Crossroad School Road, Newville, PA 17241. Throughout the season, follow their Facebook page to watch for special events or weather-related closures.Quick Facts:

Hours:   Saturdays from 11 AM -7 PM, Sundays from 1 PM-6 PM through November 1
Open Labor Day Monday 10 AM-7 PM too.
Tickets: $7.00 per person; ages five and younger are free.

BOILING SPRINGS

South Middleton Fireworks is on for Sunday, September 6, at dusk. Enjoy these fireworks from one of South Middleton’s parks, including South Middleton Township Park or Spring Meadows.


MECHANICSBURG

Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association will host a Steam Engine and Tractor Show at Williams Grove Steam Engine Show Grounds, 1 Steam Engine Hill, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. This event celebrates steam trains with train rides, tractor pulls and parades, live music, food, etc.

 


GETTYSBURG

Land of Little Horses in Adams County is a popular day-trip destination for families. On Monday, September 7 (Labor Day), your family can enter the park for free – a savings of $10 per person!  You will find miniature horses at Land of Little Horses (some roaming the park), ponies, horses, a camel, alpacas, goats, peacocks, pigs, and more! The arena show, The Mane Event, features performing animals. On September 7, they will offer three Mane event performances —11:30, 1:30, and 3:30. Pony rides, Gem Mining, and Souvenir Feed Cups are each $5. The park offers an “Extras Package” of any 3 for $12.   Hours: 10 AM- 5 PM (closed Tuesdays).  Land of Little Horses Farm Park is located at 125 Glenwood Dr, Gettysburg. The park is open rain or shine.


HARRISBURG

Join the City of Harrisburg for Kipona 2020. This annual festival has been modified to feature a hybrid of in-person and virtual activities due to the pandemic. The in-person activities include 15 food trucks on Saturday, September 5, from 3 PM to 8 PM on City Island, followed by fireworks at 8:15 PM.

 


MANHEIM

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, located at the Mount Hope Estate & Winery north of Manheim, will open for its 40th season on Labor Day weekend, starting Saturday, September 5, with a smaller audience to allow for social distancing.
