Where to get Fastnachts & Donuts in Cumberland & Franklin County | February 16

Fastnacht Day is the Pennsylvania Dutch way to celebrate Fat Tuesday!  Fastnacht Day 2021 is Tuesday, February 16.

Traditionally Fastnachts are made to use up the lard, sugar, butter, and other fatty foods in a house before Lent begins.  Some fastnachts are square or diamond-shaped, while others are twisted or round.  Some have holes, and some bakers fill fastnachts with cream.

Here are a few places in and around Shippensburg to get donuts or fastnachts:

Maplewood Farm Market, 8564 Olde Scotland Road, Shippensburg

Maplewood Farm Market is taking call-ahead orders for donuts at 717-532-8973, or you can stop by the business and fill out an order form.  Please place your orders by noon, February 13.  Donuts are priced at $10.50 dozen; $.95 each; Donut Bits $2.50 lb; Fastnachts $.85 each or $9.50 dozen.  Varieties:  Peanut Butter, Raspberry, Bavarian, Creme Filled, Glazed, Donut Bits, and Fastnachts.


Dutch County Store, 10 Mooney Road, Shippensburg

Dutch Country Store is taking orders for donuts for Fastnacht Day. Call 717-477-9339 to place your order.  Cream filled with glaze or powder, Peanut Butter filled with glaze or powder, Black Raspberry Cream filled with glaze or powder, Glazed or powdered with holes (any of the options can be rolled in granulated sugar too).  They will open on Tuesday from 7 AM – 6 PM.  $9.50/dozen or $4.75/half dozen.


Zimmerman’s Groceries, 1522 Orrstown Rd, Shippensburg

Call 717-477-0886 to place your order for Fastnacht Day.  They are open Tuesday from 8 AM – 6 PM.


Dutch Girl Goodies, 10 Brown Road, Shippensburg

Dutch Girl Goodies make their Fasnachts from scratch and with real lard.  Donuts are available too.  $6/dozen.  Call 717-477-0727 to place your order for Fastnacht Day.  They will be open Monday evening, February 15, from 4 PM – 8 PM, and Tuesday, February 16, from 7 AM – 7 PM.


Country Store Cafe (formally Rachel’s Country Store), 6352 McClays Mill Road, Newburg

Country Store Cafe is taking orders (717-530-9452) for Donuts on Tuesday, February 16.  They open at 6 AM on Tuesday.


Country Breeze Farm Market & Bakery, 5039 Molly Pitcher Hwy, Chambersburg

Country Breeze Farm Market & Bakery in Chambersburg ask for orders to be placed by February 13 by calling 717-375-4115.  Glazed Rings, Boston Creme, Apple Fritter, and White Cream Filled.  Old Fashioned Fashnachts can be ordered as well.


Windy Knoll Farm Market, 2685 Spring Road, Chambersburg

Windy Knoll is accepting donut orders for Fastnacht Day.  Mix or Match $.89/each or $9.95/dozen.  Mix or match options include Glazed Rings, Creme Filled, Peanut Butter Filled, Bavarian Filled, and Apple Fritter.  They open on Tuesday at 6 AM for fresh donuts.  Call 717-264-2900 to place your orders, but they will have plenty for walk-ins too.

On Fastnacht Day, stop by and get a fresh-made Fasnacht from their bakery.


Long’s Donuts

Long’s Donuts will be set up at Glenwood Foods in Greencastle on Monday, February 15, from 4-7 PM and Tuesday, February 16, from 6 AM to 11 AM.  Pre-orders are highly recommended by Sunday, 2/14 (text 717-552-7495).  Varieties include Glazed, Powdered, Cinnamon Sugar, Black Raspberry Filled, Chocolate Dipped with Coconut, and Fruity Pebbles. Cash or card accepted.


Paul’s Country Market, 6374 Nunnery Road, Waynesboro

Paul’s Country Market will have donuts for Fastnacht Day.  Place your order now in-store or call 717-762-480.  Varieties include Glazed, powdered, cinnamon/sugar yeast-raised donut rings, Bavarian Crème, Fluffy white crème, Peanut butter filled yeast shell donuts.


Beeman’s Baked Goods, 51 S. Orange St., Carlisle

Fastnacht varieties will be available while supplies last on Tuesday or you may place an order by calling 717-218-5258.  Beeman’s Baked Goods are open 8 AM – 4 PM Tuesday-Friday, 8 AM – 2 PM Saturday. The following varieties are offered Plain, Glazed, Powdered Sugar,  and Cinnamon Sugar.


Weis Markets (multiple locations)

Weis Markets will have fastnachts ready for pickup from a pre-order or in-store purchase.  The supermarket sells a traditional Pennsylvania Dutch fastnacht made with potato flour in plain, glaze, or sugared. $3 for a half dozen and $5 for a dozen.
