Shippensburg

All the fun is back at Ship First Fridays! On Friday, May 6, from 4:30 PM to 8 PM, Appalachian Brewing Company, Castlerigg Wine Shop, The Italian Job, Uncle Eddie’s BBQ, Brooke’s Cakes & Sweets, and live music will be at Shippensburg Station, the trailhead of the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail (51 E. Fort Street). Shop local artisans at the Ship Art Market or bring a chair or blanket and hang out listing to music and enjoying the food and beverages from food trucks.

 

 


Shippensburg Church of Brethren (253 E. Garfield St) is having a Bigler’s Hoagies fundraiser on May 6 from 10 AM to 6 PM & May 7 from 10 AM to 2 PM.  Drive through ordering for pick up and go.  Ham, Turkey, and Roast Beef Hoagies are $7.50 each.


This weekend’s Smith’s Chicken BBQ is Saturday, May 7 from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Shippensburg Church of the Nazarene on Orange Street (former Premier events building).  No tickets are needed. Meals are $13.


 

 The Shape Gallery (19 E. King Street) kicks off a new exhibit on May 6 at 6 PM, Elements.  The exhibit will be running from May 6 through June 10.
 

 

 
Dine at El Mariachi Mexican Restaurant (40 Shippensburg Shopping Center) on Mother’s Day, and all moms get free fried ice cream.
 

This Saturday, May 7, spend the evening at the Shippensburg Firefighters Activity Center (33 W. Orange Street) with Cumberland Valley Hose Company #2 and win some meat. Doors open at 4 PM, the meal (Meatballs, Scalloped Potatoes, Mixed Vegetables, Dinner Roll) at 5 PM, and the raffle start at 6 PM. Unlimited beverages (adult ones, too) and dessert are also included. Special rounds, meat bundles, snack raffles, 50/50, and small games of chance.


Orrstown

Lurgan Greenhouse will have some fun extras – homemade baked goods and chicken barbeque on Fridays and Saturdays through May 28.  Lurgan Greenhouse, 8126 Oakdale Rd, Orrstown, is open year-round. Hours are weekdays, 8 AM to 6 PM, and Saturday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Closed Sundays. Cash or Check only!


Newburg

The 46th Annual Cumberland Valley Amish Schools Consignment Sale will be Saturday, May 7, at 8:30 AM at the Flaud Farm, 15700 Burnt Mill Road, Newburg, PA 17240. Flowers, crafts, quilts, shrubs, animals, tools, and more. Plenty of food too!  No credit cards are accepted. View the sale ad here.


Chambersburg

Visit Downtown Chambersburg on Friday, May 6, from 5-8 PM for the 1st Friday. Enjoy an evening of shopping, face painting, flowers, in-store specials, food, music, a time capsule, and the return of WIN Walk a Mile in Her Shoes. Bring your talent to the 11/30 Visitors Center on May 6 at 7 PM for Open Mic Auditions to begin your A Cappella & Unplugged journey to a $500 grand prize. Go here to register. Head to Rural King Chambersburg on Saturday, May 7, from 10 AM to 2 PM for the annual Plant a Pot for Mom event. Kids pick out a flower to plant and give mom for Mother’s Day. It’s completely FREE!


Shalom Christian Academy will host the Dutchfest on Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7. The event kicks off Friday with food concessions, a craft show, a used book area, and a live sports auction. Saturday’s events include the SCA 5K, Children’s Fun Walk, and a Chicken BBQ. In addition, there are activities for children of all ages – tractor-pulled barrel ride, face painting, four bounce houses, a petting zoo, etc. Hours are Friday, May 6, from 5 PM to 9 PM, and Saturday, May 7, from 10 AM to 2 PM at Shalom Christian Academy, 126 Social Island Road, Chambersburg. The Capitol Theatre hosts an award-winning Elvis Tribute Artist, David King and the Spin-Outs Band on Friday, May 6, at 7 PM. (Note:  Saturday, May 7, is sold out). Elvis Presley shocked the world with his exciting style of rock’n’roll, but he also took the world to church with his beautiful, soulful gospel music. This 90-minute performance will take you on a journey through a vast catalog of Elvis Presley’s finest gospel and inspirational hits featuring songs such as “Peace in the Valley,” “He Touched Me,” “You Gave Me a Mountain,” How Great Thou Art” and many more! Franklin County CareerTech’s greenhouse is open.  The student-operated greenhouse is located at 3015 Molly Pitcher Highway, Chambersburg, PA, and offers various annuals, vegetables, herbs, and hanging baskets.  Teens and Greens is open Monday through Wednesday from 9 AM to 3 PM; Thursday and Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM; and Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM.
 

The 25th Annual Chambersburg Noontime Lions Club Trout Derby is May 7 and 8. This year there will be approximately $15,000 in prize money, 1,200 fish stocked, 450 money fish, a big trout contest, and other fun activities. Go here to register.
 

Roxbury

There is public skating at the Blue Mountain Skating Rink on Friday evenings from 7-9 PM. $4 admission and $1 skates. Children under 6 are free and non-skating adults are free as well. The Blue Mountain Skating Rink is located 1 mile west of Roxbury, on Rt 641.


The fishing derby has been postponed.  The Lurgan Township Lions Club has a fishing derby for kids (15 and under) on Saturday, May 7. Registration begins at 7 AM, and fishing starts at 8 AM. There are multiple prizes for tagged fish for age groups up to age 15. Also, it is the first Saturday for the Mountainside Market which will be held inside the Lions Club Building on Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM.


Carlisle

The Amani Festival scheduled for downtown Carlisle on Saturday has been postponed because of weather, organizers announced on Facebook Friday night.

The Amani Festival is a one-day multi-cultural festival in downtown Carlisle on May 7, 10 AM – 7 PM. Amani means “peace” in Swahili. The festival will include 60 vendors, ethnic food, a beer & wine garden, live music, pet path & beyond, arts & crafts vendors, a children’s alley, and more.


Join the Friends of Kings Gap for a Plant Sale and Garden Days on Saturday, May 7, from 10 AM to 4 PM, and Sunday, May 8, from Noon to 4 PM. The plant sale includes native plants and a few “naturalized” favorites. All sales are cash or check only. Garden days will feature programs on gardening for birds, amphibians, and children’s activities. The event is at Kings Gap Environmental Education Center, 500 Kings Gap Road, Carlisle. 


The Cumberland Drive-In Theatre will be open Friday – Sunday, May 6 – 8. The double-feature is Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (PG-13) and Morbius (PG-13). The box office opens at 7 PM, and the first feature approximately begins at 8:30 PM. For more information, go to https://www.81fun.com. Waynesboro

Update: Because of the high winds and pouring rain in the forecast, the SpringFest has been canceled. There will be food trucks set up in the parking lot behind Main Street Park, and there will be plenty of places to shop, great food and perfect gifts for mom at the brick-and-mortar stores and restaurants.

Spring Market Fest on Main Street, Waynesboro, will include 300 craft and retail vendors, ten food trucks, a beer & wine garden, and a free kid’s zone with bounce houses and a make & take craft. The family fun event is from 10 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, May 7. Main Street Waynesboro will be closed from Potomac to Broad Street.


Gettysburg

Land of Little Horses is celebrating all moms by offering free admission for moms on Sunday, May 8. The 100-acre farm park will open on Saturdays and Sundays through May 29. Then, beginning May 30, they are open seven days a week through Labor Day. At Land of Little Horses, you will find miniature horses, ponies, horses, a camel, alpacas, sheep, goats, deer, peacocks, pigs, and more! In addition, the arena show, The Mane Event, features performing animals. For pricing, visit their website. Hours are 10 AM – 5 PM.


Hershey

Celebrate public gardens week by visiting Hershey Gardens on Friday, May 6, from 9 AM to 5 PM – and save half off your admission with this voucher. The voucher can be shown on your phone, or it can be printed. “Go Public Gardens” is an ongoing, evergreen association initiative to drive the public to visit, value, and volunteer at public gardens in their area and when they travel.

Celebrate Mom at Hershey’s Gardens. Moms are Free on Mother’s Day Weekend, Saturday, May 7, and Sunday, May 8, from 9 AM – 5 PM. On Sunday only, stop by the Education Center in The Children’s Garden for a rhododendron and azalea display, “The Joy of Eastern Rhododendrons,” provided by the Mason-Dixon Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society. Hershey Gardens is located at 170 Hotel Road, across from The Hotel Hershey.
