What’s Happening | March 3, 4, & 5

Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend in South Central PA.

Shippensburg/Newburg

Katie’s Place Thrift Shop is having its next monthly sale this weekend, March 2 – 4 from 8 AM – Noon.  The store is located at the old Martin’s Bakery Building (go down the hill to the bottom of the building) at the corner of S. Penn and E. Garfield Streets in Shippensburg.

The SHAPE Gallery will be showcasing the artwork of ten students from the AP Studio class at Shippensburg Area Senior High School this month. The exhibition, “Retrospective,” will open with a reception this Friday evening, March 3, from 6PM until 8PM.  As always, the SHAPE Gallery and receptions are free and open to the public.

John and Lena Fisher will open their farm in Newburg where you can experience farm life for a day.  On Saturday, March 4 and Saturday, March 11, visit the newly born lambs, see sheep shearing, and much more!  Visitors may come between 8 AM and 4 PM.  Homemade food will be available for sale.  Otterbein Acres is located at 10071 Otterbein Church Road.

Every first Friday night of the month, the Harbor (55 West King Street) hosts a movie night on the dock, beginning at 8PM.  The movie for March will be the Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.  The Harbor is a safe place for community to hang out without the influences of alcohol.

A Shippensburg Community Blood Drive will take place March 4 at Liberty Tax Service from 8AM – Noon.  All donors will receive a certificate for FREE tax preparation services and 2 FREE admission vouchers to a Harrisburg Comedy Zone Show.

Sunday March 5, 2PM there will be a class to make a Coffee Sign at The Thought Lot.  $20, all supplies included.  Create your own coffee sign from barn wood to hang your mugs on.  Ticket info here.

Roxbury

The Blue Mountain Skating Rink is located 1 mile west of Roxbury, PA on Rt 641.  The roller skating rink is open for public skating on Friday evenings from 7-9 PM Admission is only $4 and skate rentals are $1.  Kids 6 and under are FREE and non-skating adults are FREE.

Chambersburg

Chambersburg Community Theatre (CCT) will hold open auditions for Anne of Green Gables.  Sunday, March 5 at 3 pm & Monday, March 6 at 6:30 pm in the Wood Center at the Capitol Theatre, (please use rear entrance off W. Washington St. parking lot) No previous stage experience or preparation necessary, but familiarity with the story & characters is helpful. Auditions will be cold readings from the script.  Roles for six females and five males age 10 and older.

Books-A-Million will be having a Dr. Seuss’s Birthday Celebration on Saturday, March 4, 2 PM. Join Books-A-Million (Chambersburg Mall) for story time in celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday. In-store activities include crafts, coloring, games, and more.

The Young Islanders will perform Sunday, March 5 at 3PM.  Experience lively Irish music at the Capital Theatre.  Ticket info here.

Greencastle

Cabin Fever Craft Show will be held on March 4 at Green Grove Gardens, 1032 Buchanan Trail E.  Craft vendors, food, and door prizes from 9 AM to 3 PM. Admission is free. 

Carlisle

On Saturday, March 4th 9 AM – Noon visit Home Depot and enjoy a free workshop for kids.  You and your child can build a rain gauge house.  Register online HERE.

The Mid-Atlantic Reptile Expo takes place at the Carlisle Expo Center on March 4th from 9AM -4PM.  It is a sales and educational event geared toward reptile & amphibian enthusiasts.  Entrance tickets are $8 for all guests 13 years of age and older, guests 12 and under are free. Tickets are available for purchase only at the door.

Harrisburg

The 15th Annual Pennsylvania Horse World Expo will feature the nation’s leading equestrian clinicians, performers, entertainers, hundreds of vendors, equines of all breeds, seminars, and shopping to the Farm Show Complex March 2 – 5, 2017.  Daily general admission ticket includes all activities except Theatre Equus. There is no additional fee for seminars or demonstrations. All seating is first come, first served for Horse World Expo activities. The Farm Show Complex charges a daily $10 admission for parking.

Theater Equus is a professionally choreographed and scripted show in which humans and horses partner perform remarkable feats of daring and beauty. Theatre Equus will be held the evenings of March 3 and 4 in conjunction with Horse World Expo. Geared to all ages, Theatre Equus is an evening of family entertainment starring horses. Performances by about thirty of the country’s most highly trained horses are accompanied by music, enhanced lighting and narration.  Tickets required ($15 – $27).

Maple Sugar Festival will be held Sunday March 5 at Fort Hunter Park, 5300 North Front Street from Noon – 4PM.  As winter ends and spring begins the maple sap begins to flow. Taste real maple syrup on ice cream, try tapping a tree, see maple syrup and candy making. Many children’s activities and delicious PA maple products are for sale. Enjoy a video on maple syrup making and try the taste test. This event is FREE for everyone.

York

This weekend, March 3-5 is the Pennsylvania Garden Show of York.  Vendors offer homemade goods ranging from lawn and garden ornaments to organic soaps. The event at the York Expo Center also features games and food.  For ticket info including prices visit HERE.

Hershey

Zoo America has $6 Fridays where all visitors get in for $6 every Friday during the winter through March 2017. Admission is regularly $11 per person for ages 9-54, $9 for ages 3-8 & 55+, and free for ages 2 and under.
