Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend!

The Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, May 27 marks the first free fishing day in the Commonwealth.  Fish-for-Free Days allow residents and non-residents to legally fish in Pennsylvania without a fishing license. All other fishing regulations apply.

Shippensburg

Katie’s Place Thrift Shop is having its next monthly sale this week, May 24-25-26 from 8AM – Noon. The store is located at the corner of S. Penn and E. Garfield Streets in Shippensburg. New items. Everything is HALF off too!

Shippensburg Community Park and Recreation & Phantom Shadow have teamed up for a Summer Kick Off Party over Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-28! Daily wristband prices for the opening weekend of the Shippensburg Public Pool (Swimmer $5). In addition, Phantom Shadow will be producing a fun time with inflatables, games, & music (Bouncer $10).  Saturday: Noon – 8PM; Sunday: Noon – 5PM; Monday: 11AM – 5PM

COCO will be shown outside at Shippensburg Memorial Park on Sunday, May 27 at 8PM.  Admission is FREE.  Movie sponsored by the Shippensburg Moose Lodge #2500.

Come out and support the Shippensburg Memorial Day activities on Monday May 28. The Joint Veterans Council of Shippensburg will hold their annual Memorial Day Ceremonies and Parade beginning at 10AM at Locust Grove Cemetery, followed by services at Spring Hill Cemetery at 11AM and flag raising ceremony at Shippensburg Veterans Memorial Park at Noon. At 1:15PM the Navy & Marine Memorial Services will be conducted at Branch Bridge on King Street. The Parade will begin at 2PM from the corner of King and Prince Streets.

The STCC Open Air Market located at 180 Airport Rd is open Memorial Day, May 28. Stop by between 3PM and 7PM to shop your favorite vendors.

Newville/Carlisle

The Cumberland Valley Tractor Pullers Association continues its 2018 Pull season on May 26, 6:30PM.  Admission is $8 for adults with children under 12 free.  Concession Stand available. May 26:  6200 Interstate trucks, Farm Stock – 5500,7500,9500, Gas and diesel trucks.

The Newville Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday, May 28, 2018 at 1PM, followed by the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Fountain at approximately 2PM.

Joint Veterans Council of Carlisle will hold the Annual Memorial Day Parade forming at 8:30AM and starting promptly at 9AM, with services following the parade at Veterans’ Memorial Courtyard at 9:45AM.  Inclement Weather: Parade will be cancelled and the ceremonies will be held in the Old Courthouse.

Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is open Thursday – Sunday on Memorial Day Weekend.  Double Feature: Thursday-Saturday, May 24-26 Solo: A Star Wars Story and Black Panther Triple Feature: Sunday, May 27  Solo: A Star Wars Story;  I Feel Pretty;  Black Panther

Chambersburg/Fayetteville

The Chambersburg Aquatic Center is scheduled to open May 26.  Single-day admission rates to the new facility will be $5 for borough residents and $9 for non-residents. Children under 3 yrs of age are free. Normal pool hours for daily admittance is 1PM – 8PM (season members can enter at noon – one hour earlier than the public).

This Saturday, May 26, will be the Opening Day of North Square Farmers Market’s 2018 season. Over 25 stands of vendors and community organizations will be present. Live music will be provided by local band, Don’t Look Down starting at 9AM and a free kids’ activity will be offered by Spiritrust Lutheran at The Village at Luther Ridge.  North Square Farmers Market is open every Saturday morning, 8AM to Noon, from May 26 to October 20, 2018. The market is located at 50 North Main Street, near King Street Church.

The Caledonia State Park’s swimming pool will officially open Saturday, May 26.

The Cumberland Valley Twenty-One Day Retreat Organization will sponsor the Chambersburg Memorial Day parade on May 28 at 9:15AM.

A Memorial Day Concert on Monday, May 28 at 7:30PM will kick off the 2018 Summer Concerts at Chambersburg’s Memorial Park.

Waynesboro

The Market at the Park opens this Saturday morning, May 26 8AM – 11:30AM at Main Street Park in downtown Waynesboro. Here is a list of the vendors who will be there on Saturday:  Sugar Hollow Farm Alpacas, Harvest Hills Farm, BBQ Beast, The Flower Shack, Sweet Rose’s Soaps, Bender’s Brew, Grappling Crab Shack, Good Gracious Gardens, BiserFarms Artisan Cheese, Rough Edges, Krystal’s Cakes & Creations, Dawn & Dusk Donuts, Rose & Ivy Gifts and Ray’s Kettle Corn.

Downtown Waynesboro will have a Memorial Day Parade on May 28 at 9AM.  The parade will begin at Cumberland Valley Avenue and end at Memorial Park.

Renfrew Institute’s Youth Festival is Sunday, May 27 from 1PM – 5:30PM.  Geared for kids of all ages, the event features a variety of workshops, demonstrations, activities, and entertainment throughout the day, including a performance by the Waynesboro Children’s Theatre Troupe.

Biglerville/Gettysburg

Hollabaugh Bros., Inc. Fruit Farm & Market is having their 3rd Annual Strawberry Festival on Memorial Day weekend: Saturday, May 26, 2018 from 8AM – 5PM and Sunday, May 27, 2018 from Noon – 5PM.  Fresh Strawberry Sundaes, Strawberry Pies, Strawberries n’ Shortcake, Strawberry activities for kids, Bounce House, and Wagon Rides.  Admission to the festival is free; however, some activities have additional cost.

The annual Gettysburg Memorial Day parade and ceremony is one of the oldest continuing ceremonies in the country.  The Memorial Day Parade will begin at 2PM at Lefever Street in Gettysburg and head northeast to Middle Street; turn west on East Middle Street and south on Baltimore Street to the Soldiers’ National Cemetery.  The Memorial Day Ceremony will take place at 3PM at the Rostrum in the Soldiers’ National Cemetery.

Harrisburg

Kick off Summer 2018 at Bass Pro Shops! On May 26 & 27 there are FREE Kids’ Activities. Catch & Release pool, Craft, Fun Photo Download, Workshop at 1:30PM. Stop in Sat. or Sun. 11AM – 4PM for this FREE fun!

Hershey

Two brand new water attractions (Breakers Edge and Whitecap Racer) are opening at Hersheypark this Memorial Day weekend.  Hersheypark hours are 10AM to 8PM Thursday and Monday and 10AM to 10PM Friday through Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.  The Boardwalk at Hersheypark opens for the season on Saturday and will remain open through the rest of the holiday weekend. Hours are 10AM to 6PM.

Tipton

Delgrosso’s is having a Wild West Memorial Day Weekend Celebration beginning Saturday, May 26 through Monday, May 28.  Free entertainment in the Train Yard all weekend long with the Rhinestone Cowgirls Horse Show, a petting zoo, and more. Use the special coupon on Memorial Day Monday to receive $5 off your All-Day Fun Pass.  All Veterans and Service Members get a FREE All-Day Fun Pass on Memorial Day Monday with Military ID.  Must get free wristband at ticket booth.
