Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend!

Shippensburg

The Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 4th annual Bloom Festival in downtown Shippensburg on June 9 from 9AM – 3PM.  The Festival takes place rain or shine in the Borough Parking lot (Burd Street), across from the Shippensburg Police Department.  Admission is FREE.  Free parking will be at the Fire Fighters Activity Center (Orange St. and Neff Ave).  The festival includes craft, retail, & food vendors, plant & flower sales, music, children’s activities and more!  A sidewalk chalk art contest will be hosted by Shippensburg Downtown Organizations Investing Together (D.O.I.T.) from 8AM – 11AM in tandem with the Bloom Festival.  Also on this day, the Shippensburg Public Library Duck Derby will be held at 1PM at the Branch Creek Bridge.  Pick up Duck Certificates at the Public Library. 1 duck for $5 and a 6-pack for $20. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top 3 finishers!

Maplewood Farm Market will be having their Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 9 from 8AM – 4PM! Pick your own Strawberries ($2.29/lb).  20% off ALL planters and hanging baskets. FREE Ice Cream with Strawberry toppings.

On Saturday, June 9 the Zerbini Family Circus will be in Shippensburg at the Fair Grounds. Enjoy jugglers, high flyers, high wire, camels, clowns and more!  Tickets: Adults $12; Show Times: 5:30PM & 7:30PM.  Camel and Pony rides will be available 1 hour before each show (additional charge).

The Cumberland Valley Hitman Organization is a local semi-pro football team.  Join the CV Hitmen at Veterans Stadium on June 9, 7PM.  Youth and Special Education Appreciation Night.  FREE admission.

The first Shippensburg Truck & Tractor Pull of the Season is Saturday, June 9, 7PM at the Shippensburg Fairgrounds. Bring your lawn chairs.  Admission: Adults $10; Children (5-11) $5

Beyond Shippensburg

Carlisle:  The annual Dickinson College U-Turn & Community Yard Sale will be held from 7:30AM to 1PM on Saturday, June 9 at Carlisle Fairgrounds, K Street entrance, inside building T.  Admission is free beginning at 8:30AM, but early birds can pay $5 to enter at 7:30AM.  The college sale features donated items by departing Dickinson College students.  The Shippensburg/Chambersburg area yard sales can be found here Thursday mornings.

Carlisle:  Barnitz United Methodist Church is having their 3rd annual Children’s Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 9, 2018. Registration 6 – 8AM. Fishing start time 8AM. Ages 1 – 12. The church is situated on the banks of the Yellow Breeches Creek On Church Lane (off Pine Rd). This is a free event. Food available for purchase.

Carlisle:  Celebrate the history and heritage of Kings Gap on Sunday, June 10, 2018, 1-5PM.  At Heritage Day, enjoy tours of the Carriage House and Cameron-Masland Mansion as well as free horse-drawn wagon/carriage rides.   Van Wagner will be performing at 2PM on the Mansion Lawn.  Have fun and learn with historic games, clothespin doll craft, a cake walk, ice cream making/tasting, special exhibits and more. Free Admission for the Whole Family!

Chambersburg:  The Chambersburg Ballet Theatre Company will present an original, narrated blacklight fairy tale ballet, “Snow White” at the Capitol Theatre on June 9, 2018.  The Chambersburg Ballet Theatre Company will present at 2PM and 6:30PM.  Tickets for “Snow White” are available at the Capitol Theatre Box Office, (717) 263-0202, or online, at:  thecapitoltheatre.org.

Chambersburg:  The Franklin County Historical Society hosts, “Safe Harbor: the Underground Railroad”, a presentation by Karen James. The event will take place on Saturday, June 9 from 1-3PM at The Old Jail, 175 East King Street, Chambersburg. This event is free and open to the public. Call 304-261-4516 for information.

Chambersburg:  Second Saturday Movies in the Park are back this summer at Chambers Fort Park.   Coordinated by Downtown Chambersburg Inc. and sponsored by F&M Trust and Summit Health, the FREE family-friendly movie series kicks off in June and continues through September.  Guests are invited to bring snacks, blankets and chairs.  Free kids’ activities are provided one hour before showtime (at dusk).  June 9 – The Lion King

Marion:  The 2018 Marion Festivals will be held on the following 4 Saturdays: June 2, June 9, June 16, & June 23. Free Entertainment with 3 Shows each night (6:15 PM; 7:30PM; 9PM). Food, Games, Rides. Kitchen opens at 4:30PM. Free parking.

New Cumberland:  Capital City Airport with host a free family-friendly Community Day event at the Capital City Airport on June 9, 2018 from 9AM – 2PM. There will be general aviation aircraft on display, helicopter rides from East Coast Helicopter Tours (additional cost of $40 a person), a drone obstacle course and seminar, and much more! EAA Chapter 122 will be offering free flights for youth ages 8 – 17 with an FAA-licensed pilot in a general aviation aircraft.

Ongoing Weekend Events

The Kids Bowl FREE Summer Bowling Program is available in South Central PA. Each participating location has Program Days to receive FREE Games of Bowling All Summer long!  Each bowling alley has its own start and finish dates and age restrictions.  Read more HERE.

North Square Farmers Market is open every Saturday morning, 8AM to Noon, from May 26 to October 20, 2018. The market is located at 50 North Main Street, near King Street Church.  Rain or shine.

The Chambersburg Aquatic Center is now open.  Single-day admission rates to the new facility will be $5 for borough residents and $9 for non-residents. Children under 3 yrs of age are free. Normal pool hours for daily admittance is 1PM – 8PM (season members can enter at noon – one hour earlier than the public).

The miniature train at Norlo Park will be up and running on Saturdays throughout Summer.  The miniature train, complete with a cattle car and caboose, is free to ride on Saturdays from 1PM to 4PM.  It is open to riders of all ages.  Donations are accepted.

Free concerts at Chambersburg Memorial Park Kiwanis Band Shell continue all Summer long. View the dates HERE.

Showing Friday through Sunday, June 8 – 10 at Cumberland Drive-In is Life of the Party and Deadpool 2.  Gates open at 7PM. First feature begins at approximately 9PM.

Tractor Supply holds affordable preventive vet clinics inside their stores for your dog, cat, puppy or kitten every Saturday at the Chambersburg & Shippensburg locations.  Times are 10AM – 11:30AM at the Chambersburg store, 1733 Lincoln Way East or 1PM – 2:30PM at the Shippensburg store, 40 Shippensburg Shopping Center.
