Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend!  Our public group, #Shippensburg, is an extension of our website & FB Page and is a friendly forum regarding “All Things Shippensburg.”  You are welcome to join & post.

Greyhound Community Night will be Friday, August 17 (5-8PM) at Shippensburg Area Senior High. Come celebrate the upcoming Greyhound Athletic season. Food, Games, Band, Cheerleaders and Fall sports teams.  Sports tickets and booster clubs will be selling merchandise and food.

Katie’s Place Thrift Shop is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this week! 8AM to Noon.

Avengers: Infinity War will be shown outside at Shippensburg Township Park, 304 Britton Road, on Friday, August 17 at dusk.  Admission is FREE.  Dress up as your favorite super hero! Starting at 7PM, create your own mask, games, obstacle course, and photo booth.

Shippensburg Community Park & Recreation is hosting an after hour Splash Party on Saturday, August 18.  From 8PM – 10PM, swim under the lights at Memorial Park Pool.  Admission is $3 for all ages (2 & under free). Included with Membership.

Duck Dodge 5K, Run or Walk will be held Saturday August 18, 9AM at Dykeman Park & Trails in Shippensburg.  5K complex of different loops cross country course (weave through nature trails).  Online registration ($20 registration includes a T-shirt) is HERE.  Same day registration and packet pickup will begin at 7:30AM. Registration closes 15 minutes before the event starts.  This event is hosted by and proceeds benefit the Shippensburg Community Parks and Recreation Authority. Rain or Shine.

The Shippensburg University football team will be conducting a meet-and-greet session with fans at 12:30PM this Saturday, August 18, from SU Student Association Field at Seth Grove Stadium.  Fans are encouraged to stop by and visit and meet this year’s edition of the Red Raiders. The opportunity will be available for pictures with the players.  Additionally, free schedule posters will be available for fans.

CHAMBERSBURG/McCONNELLSBURG

The Franklin County Truck Convoy will be leaving Twin Bridges Show Grounds, 1501 Crider’s Church Road, Chambersburg at approximately 10:30AM on Saturday, August 18. The convoy will travel on Twin Bridge Road to Rt. 30 East thru the Borough of Chambersburg to Rt. 997 continuing to Rt. 11 South, back thru the Borough of Chambersburg to Rt. 30 West, turning right onto Crottlestown Road and returning to Twin Bridges Show Grounds. This is a benefit for Make-A-Wish.  The free event from 8AM – 4PM will include a variety of other activities, including a car show, music entertainment, food, vendors and kids games.

Come out on Saturday, August 18 for Menno Haven Auxiliary’s Chicken BBQ Sale from 10AM – 2PM at Chambers Pointe (Philadelphia Ave). Smith’s BBQ will be on site preparing a delicious meal to include half of a chicken, baked potato, a roll, butter, applesauce and baked beans!

The Peach Festival at Fort Loudon Community Grounds, 30 and Hawbaker Drive, will be held August 18, 8AM – 2PM. Celebrate the peach industry in Franklin County with all things peaches – peach pies, cobbler, cream puffs, peach sundaes, and bags of peaches for sale. There will be Entertainment, Children’s activities, Crafts & Home based Businesses and more.

North Square Farmers Market, 50 N. Main Street, will be held Saturday, August 18 from 8AM to Noon

The Chambersburg Aquatic Center will have new hours with school opening. The Center will be open on Friday evenings 5-8PM (starting Aug 17) & Saturday/Sunday normal hours, Noon-1PM members, 1-8PM for general public. This will continue through‪ Labor Day, ‬Sept 3.

Chipotle is offering a buy-one-get-one (BOGO) offer for students nationwide on Saturday, August 18 to celebrate back-to-school season. As part of the BOGO, students of all ages can receive a free burrito, burrito bowl, salad, order of tacos or a kids meal with the purchase of an entrée of equal or greater value.

MERCERSBURG

The Franklin County Beekeepers Association will host its annual Honey Bee Festival on August 18 at Kingsland Apiary.  Pollinator field nature trail, Yard games and sports, Corn hole, Rock painting and face painting, Rock seeking (prize), Scavenger hunt (prizes), Arts and crafts, Candle dipping and rolling, Seed bombs making, Honey Tasting Contest (prize).

Mercersburg Fair continues through August 18.  Free admission/parking. Rides from 6:30-10PM. Wristbands cost $20. There will be food, games, entertainment, fireworks and more.

WAYNESBORO

The 14th annual Rouzerfest Car & Truck Show and Community Yard Sale is Saturday, August 18 from 8AM to 3PM at Red Run Park. The event also includes family-friendly activities including free games for kids, pony rides, moon bounce, face painting and free magic show, as well as small games of chance.

The Urban Arts Festival will be held throughout the downtown Waynesboro area on August 18, 2018 from 5-8PM. The event will be free and open to all ages to attend. Several performances and live demonstrations will be occurring during that time to include graffiti style and chalk artists, a gospel duo, and R&B performer Jovan Jones. NEWVILLE

The Gathering is hosting a Community Day for ALL ages on August 18, 10AM – 2PM at the Newville Fairgrounds.  Many Games, Free Food, Music, Inflatables, Critter Connections, Vision Screening, Children’s ID’s and Fingerprints, K-9 Demo, Face Painting throughout the day and more.  CornHole Tournament Registration from 10-10:45AM and tournament starts at 11AM.

The annual Mifflin Fireman’s Fair will be held on August 17 & 18 at the Mifflin Athletic Association Fairground at the intersection of Roxbury Road and Brandy Run Road (Route 997). The Friday hours will be 4PM to 10PM, with entertainment by Randy Simpson starting at 6PM. Saturday hours include a car and tractor show from 10AM to 2PM, Chicken BBQ by the Newburg-Hopewell Fire Company at 11AM. Entertainment on Saturday will feature Runaway Train at 6PM. Games and prizes will be available, including bingo.

This weekend’s double-feature at Cumberland Drive-in is “The Meg” and “Jaws.Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is located at 3290 Ritner Highway, Newville.  Gates open at 7PM.  First Feature begins at approximately 8:45PM.

GETTYSBURG

This week, August 16-19, is the Semiannual Gettysburg Fall Bluegrass Festival at the Granite Hill Camping Resort.  Four days of music on two stages, informative workshops, All-Star jam, Bluegrass Academy for kids, food, merchandise and arts & crafts vendors. Visit gettysburgbluegrass.com for details on schedule, ticketing, and FAQ’s.

MANHEIM

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is held on the grounds of the Mount Hope Estate.  With over 90 stage shows daily, 20 Royal Kitchens and scores of artisan merchants with handcrafted wares, the Renaissance Faire invites guests to immerse themselves in the 35-acre village and experience the fantasy.  Each weekend will showcase a unique theme:  August 18 & 19 Celtic Weekend

MARYLAND

The Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week for 2018 continues through Saturday, August 18.  That means qualifying apparel and footwear $100 or less, per item, are exempt from the state sales tax.  Items included are Shirts, Slacks, Jeans, Dresses, Robes, Underwear, Belts, Shoes, Boots and the first $40 of a backpack or bookbag.  Accessory items, except for backpacks, are not included.

Bring the family out to the Hagerstown Regional Airport on August 19, 1-4PM for Open Airplane Afternoon.   Climb aboard and sit in the cockpit of the historic Fairchild C-82 and C-119 Flying Boxcars and PT-26 WWII trainer aircraft. See exhibits and other museum aircraft such as the 1928 Kreider Reisner KR-31 biplane, 1943 Fairchild PT-19 WWII Trainer and Fairchild 24, all built in Hagerstown.

The 23rd Augustoberfest in Hagerstown is scheduled for August 18-19.  Enjoy a fun-filled, family-friendly weekend with great music, food, dancing, children’s entertainment, and beer.
