What’s Happening | Labor Day Weekend

Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about Labor Day weekend!

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is offering two special fishing opportunities to entice adults and kids to fish on Labor Day, September 3!  The first is a $1 license for adult residents and non-residents. The second opportunity is the Mentored Youth Panfish Day.

SHIPPENSBURG

The Demolition Derby at the Shippensburg Fairgrounds will be held Saturday, September 1 at 7:30PM.  Bring lawn chairs or blankets.  Food is available for purchase.  Gates open at 4PM.  Rain Date:  Sunday, September 2, 2018 at 3PM.

Shippensburg’s Open Air Market is held each Monday from 3PM to 7PM at the Southampton Township Cumberland County (STCC) Park.  Visit HERE for the 2018 Vendor list. Public parking for the market is available at the Township Building across the street & on the Soccer field side of the park as well.

CHAMBERSBURG/FAYETTEVILLE

The Sunflower Field just outside of Chambersburg is now in bloom!  Each year, farmers at Lesher Poultry Farm plant the sunflowers in a different location.  The 2018 location is Marion Road (both sides).  Marion Road is off Interstate 81, Exit 10.  Please remember to pull over safety as you view these flowers.  Visitors should not park on the road or in driveways.  There are unplanted places to park in the field.

North Square Farmers Market, 50 N. Main Street, will take place on Saturday, September 1 from 8AM to Noon

On Saturday, September 1, the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department will host an “Old Fashion Pig Out & Fireworks” at their Carnival Grounds. This event will run from Noon to 10PM.  Carnival foods will be served from Noon to 9:30PM.   The Guilford Station Boys will perform on stage from 6PM-9PM.  Fireworks at 10PM.

QUINCY

Quincy Ox-Roast Weekend is Friday – Monday, August 31 – September 3.  Held at the Quincy Community Ox Roast Association grounds off Pa. 997 north of Waynesboro, the four-day event features free admission, parking, bingo, food, and entertainment.

NEWVILLE/CARLISLE

Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday on Labor Day Weekend.  There will be a Double Feature on Friday and Saturday.  Sunday is a Triple Feature!  On Friday and Saturday, August 31 & September 1 gates open at 7PM.  1st Feature: Alpha   2nd Feature: Slender Man  Sunday, September 2 is a Triple Feature!  Gates open at 6PM.  The Drive-In is also having a Customer Appreciation BBQ from 6-8PM.  Price of the meal is $5 and includes 1/2 Chicken, Homemade Baked Beans, Macaroni Salad, Apple Sauce, Roll/Butter.  1st Feature: Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation  2nd Feature: Alpha  3rd Feature: Slender Man

Maple Lane Farm’s Corn Maze opens this weekend! The 4 acre Corn Maze is in the shape of the historic Laughlin Mill.  In addition to exploring the maze, children will enjoy the corn pit.  Fun photo ops too!  Saturdays from 10AM-7PM, Sundays from 2PM-6PM, Open Labor Day Monday 10AM-7PM.  Maple Lane Farm is located at 150 Crossroad School Road.

 

McLain Celtic Festival will take place on Labor Day Weekend, September 1 & 2.  The festival in Carlisle at the Two Mile House celebrates Cumberland County’s Scots-Irish Heritage.  Enjoy family-oriented fun featuring Celtic Music and Dance, Food, Highland Athletics, Border Collie demonstrations, and vendors selling Irish and Scottish goods.  Festival hours are 9AM to 5PM Sept. 1 and 9AM to 3PM Sept. 2.  To see the full schedule of events, click here.  To see the full schedule of entertainers, click here.  The festival location is Two Mile House, 1189 Walnut Bottom Rd., Carlisle, PA (across from the Kmart).

There will be an afternoon and evening of music at King’s Gap State Park on Sunday, September 2 at 3PM.  Seasons will be kicking off the concert, followed by The Celtic Martins from 5:30PM-7:30PM.  Bring your own chair or blanket and enjoy the music, food trucks, and the beautiful scenery of King’s Gap State Park.  Free and open to all!

BOILING SPRINGS

Bring your family and friends to the Bubbler Foundation Festival at South Middleton Park on Sunday, September 2, Noon – 5PM.   The North Mountain Ramblers will be the featured band. There will be free ice cream (while supplies last) and a variety of food for purchase. Free activities in the children’s area include face painting, balloon artists, the Bug Man, sidewalk chalk, kites, corn hole, a bounce house, a bounce obstacle course, bubble machines, water balloons, and the playground. New this year: a zip line for children and children-at-heart!  The annual Labor Day fireworks will follow the festival beginning at dusk at the Boiling Springs High School football field.

GETTYSBURG/HANOVER

The Hanover Chili Cook Off will be held on September 2 at Good Field in Hanover.  Since 1995, The Hanover Chili Cook Off has become a staple for family entertainment, chili tasting and fundraising for local nonprofit organizations, all built around the PA State Chili Cooking Championship. The day’s events will include three local bands, a magician, a juggler, a face painter and many varieties of chili, along with many supporting vendors.  $10 Admission.  Children 12 and under and active military with ID – FREE.

HARRISBURG

On September 1-3, 2018 the City of Harrisburg will proudly present the 102nd Annual Kipona Festival on Riverfront Park and City Island.  Enjoy festival events such as: Festival of India, Native American Pow Wow, Canoe Races, Live Music and Fireworks.  Product, food and art vendors.  Festival Hours are 11AM – 8PM on Saturday & Sunday and 11AM – 7PM on Monday.  Fireworks will be held on Sunday, September 2 at 8:15PM.

MANHEIM

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is held on the grounds of the Mount Hope Estate.  With over 90 stage shows daily, 20 Royal Kitchens and scores of artisan merchants with handcrafted wares, the Renaissance Faire invites guests to immerse themselves in the 35-acre village and experience the fantasy.  Each weekend will showcase a unique theme:  September 1, 2 & 3, 2018:  Heroes of the Realm

TIPTON

Delgrosso’s Amusement Park is offering all guests an All-Day Fun Pass for just $10 on Labor Day!  On Monday September 3, ride and slide for only $10.  Rides and Water Park open at 11AM. All-Day Fun Pass gets you all the Amusement Park Rides & the Laguna Splash Water Park.  This promotion can only be purchased at the ticket window at the Park.
