Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about on Saturday, September 7 and Sunday, September 8, 2019.

SHIPPENSBURG

A grand opening celebration will take place Saturday at the newly remodeled Wendy’s at 71 S. Conestoga Drive.  The restaurant’s employees will show off its new contemporary design from 9AM – 11AM.  The first 100 customers in line by 10AM will have the chance to win free food for a year.

Shippensburg University’s football team has their season opener on Saturday, September 7 at 1PM at SU Student Association Field at Seth Grove Stadium.

On Saturday, September 7, bring your four-legged friend for a dip in the Shippensburg Memorial Park Pool from 1PM to 4PM!  The cost is $5 per dog.  Your dog(s) must be leashed, licensed and properly vaccinated.

NEWVILLE/CARLISLE

Maple Lane Farm’s Corn Maze at 150 Crossroad School Rd is open this weekend.  The corn maze highlights the Big Spring School District’s mascot, the bulldogs.  In addition to exploring the maze, children can enjoy a corn pit, hay ride, and pony rides (additional free).  Hours are Saturdays from 1PM-7PM and Sundays from 1PM-6PM through October 27.  Admission is $7 per person; ages 5 and younger are free.

On Saturdays through the Fall, Meadowbrooke Gourds will be giving Trolley rides to the gourd fields. This tour of the farm begins at 11AM on Saturdays and will cost $5 per person, ages 3 and under will be free if held.  Reservations are strongly recommended. Payment will be collected by the driver the day of the tour.  Rides are contingent on weather conditions.  Also, visit their sunflower fields which are free to pick!

CHAMBERSBURG

North Square Farmers Market is Chambersburg’s only open air market.  The market is located next to Chambers Fort Park and is open every Saturday morning, 8AM to Noon.

The Splash Pad at the Chambersburg Aquatic Center is open to the public for FREE through early October. Hours of operation are 9AM to dusk.

The annual Duck Derby presented by Patriot Federal Credit Union will be held Saturday 7 at 2:30PM in downtown Chambersburg. Little rubber duckies will race down the Falling Spring Creek, over the falls and head to the finish line near the bridge in Chambers Fort Park. Winning ducks will receive up to $250 and the last duck to cross the finish line will receive $25. Ducks are $5 each or $25 for a Quack Pack of 6.

The Chambersburg Recreation Department will host Puppy Paddle 2019 on Saturday, September 7 from 10AM to 1PM at the Chambersburg Aquatic Center. Contests (starting at 11AM) will include doggie swimsuit styling, quickest retrieval, a doggie-paddle race, and the longest leap. Dogs must be accompanied by an owner 18 years of age or older, nonaggressive, and be leashed while on the pool deck. Dog owners must provide proof of a county license and vaccination records, and are responsible for cleaning up after their canines.  The cost is $4 per dog.

Shively Motors is celebrating its 80th Anniversary and the Grand Opening of the Shively Jeep Adventure Park at 801 Lincoln Way West Chambersburg.  On Saturday, September 7 from 9AM to 3PM come and enjoy food, games, prizes, and music at the Jeep Jamboree.  There will be a live radio remote from 104.7 WAYZ from 11AM – 1PM.  The first 50 Jeeps registered receive a free gift.  This event is open to everyone, Jeep owner or not, admission is free, and vendors will be on site.

MONT ALTO/WAYNESBORO

On Saturday, September 7 shop the Mainstreet Waynesboro’s Market at the Park at 25 E. Main St. from 8:30AM to noon.

The Borough of Waynesboro’s annual dog swim will be held on Saturday, September 7, from 1PM to 4PM, at Northside Pool on Brown Street.  $5 for owner and dog then $5 for each additional person or pup.

MERCERSBURG

Stoner’s Dairy Farm & Corn Maze in Mercersburg offers plenty of weekend Fall activities for any age!  This year, the corn maze is pumpkin themed. The 2019 season kicks off at Noon on Saturday, September 7.   The opening day will also include a Moon Bounce.  The corn maze/hayride package is $7 per person.

Drums on the Conococheage:  Then and Now will be held on Saturday, September 7, 9AM – 8PM and Sunday September 8, 11AM -4PM.  Drums on the Conococheague is a great blend of past and present history. The public will see the Powwow as a dance with education thrown in. The dance circle is open, so all Nations and people are welcome. Visitors will also see Native craft and demonstrations, and re-enactment of 18th century events. Admission is $5/person, under 12 is free.  Bring your lawn chair or blanket.  The event is at Conococheague Institute Museum located at 12995 Bain Rd, Mercersburg.

DILLSBURG

At Paulus Orchards, you can celebrate fall harvest season on a farm.  On Saturdays 9AM-6:30PM & Sundays Noon-5:30PM, enjoy the 5 acre “Wizard of Oz” Corn Maze, Play Land, Wagon Ride, Pick-your-own apples, Pumpkin Patch, and more.  All day Weekend Farm Admission $9.99 (ages 3 and up). Seniors $5 (age 65+). Children 2 and under are free.

MECHANICSBURG

The annual two day Fairy Festival in the herb gardens of The Rosemary House and Sweet Remembrances, 118-120 S. Market St., Mechanicsburg is Saturday September 7 and Sunday September 8 from 10AM – 4PM.  Admission: $5 for ages 3 years old and up. Under age 3 is free.  Special activities include fairy fashions, magic wands, fairy crafts, pixie face painting, fairy food, bubbles and more!

BIGLERVILLE/GETTYSBURG

Pick-Your-Own Apples is going on this weekend at Boyer’s Nurseries & Orchards.  Please call to see what apple varieties are available to be picked.  Picking bags are provided. Pricing is $0.75 per pound. Sign-in at the fruit market and they will show you where to go.  While there, don’t forget to explore the live, evergreen hedge maze.

The Gettysburg Wine and Music Festival at Gateway Gettysburg Complex is this weekend, September 7 & 8.  Savor hundreds of wines from 27 Pennsylvania wineries and enjoy great live music.  Price: $25 at the gate; $12 for youth and designated drivers; free for children under 12.

YORK

The York Fair is September 6-15.  America’s first fair, with offerings including entertainment, food, exhibits, rides and concerts.  Deggeller Attractions Wristbands $23 all day.  Gates open at 11AM Friday through Sunday, 12PM Monday through Thursday.  For Promo Days visit here.

ROCKHILL FURNANCE

It is Grandparents’ Day weekend at the Rockhill Trolley Museum on September 7 & 8.  Visitors to the Rockhill Trolley Museum take a step back in time, to when many American towns and cities offered inexpensive and convenient transportation using electric trolleys.  Grandparents with children accompanying them ride at the $5 child fare.

MANHEIM

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is in its 39th season of bringing history to life.  Every Saturday and Sunday through October 27 the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is open on the grounds of Mount Hope Estate. Residents of the 35-acre village are musicians, magicians, jousting knights, and royals. Each weekend throughout Faire season will showcase a unique theme that offers a different experience.

HAGERSTOWN, MD

The Wings & Wheels Expo is Saturday, September 7, 9AM – 4PM at Hagerstown Regional Airport.  This is a FREE event and a great opportunity to visit the airport and celebrate Hagerstown’s aviation industry.  The Expo will also feature a large display of Fairchild aircraft built in Hagerstown as well as Warbirds, modern aircraft, classic cars, trucks, RC model aircraft, airplane rides, live music, and food.  The Hagerstown Regional Airport Open House will include displays from airport businesses, airport maintenance and firefighting equipment exhibits and private aircraft displays.  Hagestown MD Regional Airport is located at 18434 Showalter Road – just a minute off I-81 at Showalter Road, Exit 10A/B.
