Shippensburg/Orrstown

The SHAPE Gallery “Ele-Mental Expressions”:  This exhibition of artwork is a recognition of Mental Health Month and how individuals with mental illness use art to aid their healing of this disease. The exhibit will be open through May 29.  The SHAPE Gallery is at 19 E King St.  SHAPE Gallery hours: Wednesdays through Fridays 5 PM -8 PM, Saturdays 10 AM to 4 PM. SHAPE Gallery’s openings and exhibits are always free and open to the public.

Fishing Derby – May 1:  Lurgan Township “Roxbury” Lions Club (13975 Cumberland Hwy, Orrstown) has a free fishing derby on Saturday, May 1 for children 12 and under.  Prizes and lunch available.  Registration is at 7:30 AM.  Fishing starts after announcements at 8 AM.

Lurgan Greenhouse, 8126 Oakdale Rd, Orrstown, is open year-round. Springtime hours are weekdays, 8 AM to 6 PM and Saturday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Closed Sundays. Cash or Check only!  Homemade baked goods will be sold this weekend. Chicken BBQ will be available on May 1, May 8, May 15, and May 22, 2021.

Newburg

Community Yard Sales – May 1:  Newburg will host Community Yard Sale Days on Saturday, May 1 from 8 AM – 2 PM.  Shop for bargains on East and West Main streets, West Second Street, and on Minick Drive just outside of the borough. Newburg U.M. Church will also hold a free Outdoor Children’s Carnival from 10 AM-noon and will host the Clothing Center’s reopening from 9 AM-Noon. Homemade hoagies and soup will be available at the Old Firehouse on North High Street.

Roxbury

Roller Skating – April 30:  There is public skating at the Blue Mountain Skating Rink on Friday evenings from 7-9 PM. $4 admission and $1 skates. Children under 6 are free and non-skating adults are free as well.  The Blue Mountain Skating Rink is located 1 mile west of Roxbury, PA, on Rt 641.

Newville/Carlisle

Fishing Fun Day – May 1:  The Big Spring Kiwanis is hosting a Fishing Fun Day at Newville Community Park on May 1 from 9 AM-Noon.  Kids of all ages are encouraged to attend.  Free fishing rods, reels, and fishing lessons will be provided.  Free books will also be donated to all children who attend.  Free food and drinks will be provided (served by Boy Scout Troup 174).

Drive-In Theatre – April 30 and May 1:  The Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is open on weekends with a double feature:  The Marksman / Mortal Kombat.  Admission: $10 Adults, $4 Children ages 3-12, free for Children Under 3. The Cumberland Drive-in Theatre is located in Newville, just off Interstate 81 at 3290 Ritner Highway.

2o21 Fiesta Fun Show – May 2:  The Fun Show on Sunday, May 2 will benefit the Mason Dixon Miniature Horse Association and All State Miniature Horse And Donkey Club. Gates open at 8 AM.  The horse show begins at 10 AM is open to all Miniature Horses 38″ and under and is being held at the Doubling Gap Farm, 98 Hill Lane.  Spectators are welcome!  Food vendors are the Newville Fire Hall Food Truck and Coffeeine Unlimited.

Chambersburg/Marion

Chambersburg Community Yard Sales – April 29 – May 1:

  • The Presidential Heights Development is hosting yard sales rain or shine April 29 – May 1, 7:30 AM -?
  • Beechwood Neighorboood Yard Sales (at least 13 homes) are Thursday – Friday, April 29 – May 1, 8 AM -?

Makers Market – May 1:  On Saturday, May 1, at Marion First UMC is the Marion Makers Market.  Shop from yard sale tables and local artisans bringing woodworking, quilting, soap making, watercolor art, jewelry, baked goods, and homemade soups from 7 AM to 1 PM.  Marion will also have town-wide yard sales on May 1.

Teens & Greens – Franklin County CareerTech’s greenhouse is now open.  The student-operated greenhouse is located at 3015 Molly Pitcher Highway, Chambersburg, PA, and offers various annuals, vegetables, herbs, and hanging baskets.  Teens and Greens is open Monday through Wednesday from 9 AM to 3 PM; Thursday and Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM; and Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM.  For more information, go to their website here.

 

Greencastle

Greencastle Spring Fest – May 1:  This Saturday, May 1, from 10 AM to 3 PM, is Spring Fest at Mikie’s Ice Cream, 179 S. Antrim Way, Greencastle. Craft & Vendor show with over 100 vendors. Food, kid activities, craft demonstrations, and more!  

Toy & Collectible Show – May 2:  Kryptonite Toyz is hosting 45 dealers selling modern and vintage toys at Blue Heron Events, 407 S. Washington Street, Greencastle.  Shop Sunday, May 2 from 7 AM-Noon.  Free admission. Breakfast and lunch available for purchase.

Biglerville/Gettysburg

The Land of Little Horses Park – April 30 – May 2:  The Land of Little Horses Park is open on weekends.   You will find miniature horses at Land of Little Horses (some roaming the park), ponies, horses, a camel, alpacas, goats, peacocks, pigs, and more! The arena show, The Mane Event, features performing animals.  Land of Little Horses Farm Park is located at 125 Glenwood Dr, Gettysburg.
Kid’s Day at The Park – May 2: Celebrate Kid’s Day at the park in Adams County. Kid’s Day will take place at the Gettysburg Area Recreational Park on Sunday, May 2, 1 PM – 6 PM. Stop in for games, food, and family (see flyer).
