Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend!

Shippensburg

  • The eight annual Santa Breakfast at Memorial Lutheran Church (34 E. Orange St., Shippensburg) will be held from 8 am – 11 am Saturday, Dec. 5.  It is FREE to the community.  The menu will include pancakes, sausage, fruit cocktail, coffee, fruit punch, milk, and cookies.  Door prizes, craft & activities.  Reservations are encouraged.  Contact the church office at 532-4614 or office@memluth.org
  • Southampton Township, Cumberland County is hosting a Christmas Craft & Vendor Event on December 5th 9 am – 1 pm.  The event will be held at the Cleversburg Community Center, 56 Cleversburg Rd, Shippensburg. Local crafts and vendors in one place for your holiday shopping convenience.
  • The Little Princess Playhouse at Shippensburg University will present “Cinderella” and “Snow White” on December 5, in Stewart Hall, Old Main Drive, Shippensburg. Shows will be held at 10 and 11:30 a.m. both days.  Tickets are $4, and will be available at the door.  Seating is limited.  Parking is free and available at nearby Memorial Auditorium.  The playhouse is sponsored by Shippensburg University’s Department of Music and Theatre Arts and features university students.
  • Tiny World is open for the Holiday season.  Tiny World, 6720 Rice Rd features miniature houses that are each decorated inside.  Admission is free, but donations are accepted.  Santa will be visiting on Saturday, December 12th 6 p.m & Saturday, December 19th 6 p.m.
  • Events at The Thought Lot include:  Friday December 4th Ottawa & Magnolia (alternative rock); Saturday December 5th with Megan Jean and the Klay Family Band and Shawan And The Wonton (americana/cajun/soul); Saturday December 6th Banjo Fun Day hosted by Kevin Neidig and Byrne Klay. Admission for Friday and Saturday are $10 at the door ($8 for students with student ID). Sunday is free admission.

Newburg

  • The Greenspring and Newburg First Churches of God 50 + voice choirs annually present the story of Christmas through song, storytelling, and Christmas lights. The 41st Annual Living Christmas Tree Presentations are: December 3, 4, and 5, 2015 at 7:00 pm & December 6, 2015 at 3:30 pm. The Newburg First Church of God, 260 Newburg Road, Newburg.

Newville

  • Winter Craft & Gift show will be held at the Big Spring Event Center on Saturday, December 5, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. A variety of vendors with handcrafted items, direct sales consultants, home decor, personal care items, Holiday decorations, gift ideas, and more.  Parking is available on Chestnut Street, along Route 233 (High Street), and across from the Event Center on East Liberty Avenue behind the Newville Historical Society.

Carlisle

  • The Market of Curiosities, An Odd Market for Everyone, an alternative, craft and vintage market will feature more than 50 independent artists, vintage collectors, DIY crafters, breweries for beer tasting, food, and live musical acts.  The event will take place December 5, 2015 12 – 8 pm at the Carlisle Ribbon Mill, 320 E. Louther Street. $3.00/person; children under 12/free.
  • Roots Cut Flower Farm, 2428 Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle is have a Holiday POP-UP Shop!  Their Wreath Sale Open House will be held Saturday December 5 and Saturday December 12. Christmas Wreaths, Arrangements, Garland, Rosemary Topiaries, Succulent Gardens, Roots T-Shirts, Santa Wood Carvings by Paul Hoch, Block Printed Ornaments & Cards by Carol Reed and Stone Carved Bird Baths by Mike Elston! Hours:  10 am – 4 pm
  • Carlisle Barracks is hosting the Christkindlesmarkt Holiday Crafts Bazaar on December 5, 2015, 9am – 2pm. Free Admission and Parking. Open to the Public. The event is held at PA National Guard Armory, 504 Cavalry Rd Carlisle. Entertainment, Music, Artisans, and Food.
  • 2015 Holiday Extravaganza Gift Show is on December 5th from 9 am – 4 pm.  The event is being held at the Carlisle Expo Center, 100 K Street, Carlisle.  135 Crafters, Artisans, & Home Party Companies come together to offer a one-stop holiday shopping experience.  Visit with Santa from 11am – 1pm. A kids craft table will be available all day (free, while supplies last) – kids can write a letter to Santa and/or create a craft to take home.  Free Admission and Free Parking!
  • Santa will arrive on Friday, December 4th at 6 pm to formally bring the Christmas season to Carlisle.  Arriving in a secret “sleigh” Santa will be joining community leaders, parents, and children for the lighting of the downtown Christmas tree.  Santa will then be on hand from 6 pm to 8 pm for free pictures sponsored by Revelation Photography.  Pictures can be downloaded or a print made and sent to the family with a commemorative downtown Carlisle Christmas card.  Santa will be on-site next to the Old Courthouse on Friday, December 4th from 6 pm – 8 pm, and Saturday, December 5th from 12 pm to 4 pm for free pictures from Revelation Photography.
  • Cumberland County Historical Society, 21 North Pitt Street, Carlisle is inviting families to make crafts in Santa’s Workshop December 5th 10 -noon! Visit the Holiday Exhibit and bring your camera for a free photo with Santa. You can see this year’s winter exhibit, Santa’s Workshop from December 4th – January 2nd.
  • The Downtown Carlisle Association and Bosler Memorial Library invite you to Doughnuts with Santa.  Enjoy Saturday morning doughnuts, coffee and juice with Santa at the Bosler Library from 9 am – 11 am on Saturday, December 5th. Parents are welcome to take photos. No registration necessary. Sponsored by Bimbo Bakery.
  • Meadowbrooke Gourds located at 125 Potato Road Carlisle, is having its Winter Workshop on two weekends – December 5 & 6 and December 12 & 13 from 10 am – 3 pm.  Make your own Winter gourd – you can make carolers, Santa, snowmen, angels, ornaments, Winter scenes, & more!  No reservation is needed for this event. All ages are welcome. There is a charge for the workshops. The prices range from $2 to $41 depending on the gourd you choose to create.

Chambersburg

  • 2nd Annual Cocoa Crawl is December 4 from 6 pm – 8pm.  Vote for your favorite downtown Chambersburg merchant’s hot cocoa recipe and be entered to win a $100 gift certificate. Buy a commemorative mug for $5 and receive your ballot. Only 175 mugs available.
  • Chambersburg Ballet Theatre School and Company is hosting an afternoon Nutcracker Tea on Sunday, Dec. 6 at 3 pm. Scenes from The Nutcracker will be danced, tea served, portraits taken, and more!   • Norland Avenue Pharmacy located in the Summit Health Center is hosting a Christmas Open House on Thursday, December 3rd.  20% off all gifts, door prizes, refreshments 10 am – 2 pm, grab bag coupons, carolers, and free gift wrapping.
  • Park Avenue Pharmacy is having a Christmas Open House on Friday, December 4 8 am – 8 pm.  Savings store-wide including 25% of all  gifts and Russell Stover Candy.  Door prizes, free gift wrapping, and refreshments.  Park Avenue is at 220 Park Avenue, Chambersburg.
  • Wilson College will host the 6th annual Handmade for the Holidays event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, in Lenfest Commons. The event, which will be held on the lower and ground floors, will feature handmade items from local craftspeople. This year’s items for sale include jewelry, textiles and handwovens, paintings, Shaker boxes and utensils, paper crafts, ceramics, soap products and glass ornaments.
  • M&S Harley-Davidson, 16 Falling Spring Rd, will have a Santa Photo Shoot on December 5 from 10 am – 3 pm.  Donate an unwrapped toy and have your photo taken by LA Cameras.  Santa will be on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Greencastle

  • Allison Antrim Museum is holding a holiday open house on Friday, December 4, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm. It is also the first evening of Heritage Christmas in Greencastle, the community wide 3 week celebration of the Christmas Season in downtown Greencastle.   Take a ride on a vintage Horse and Buggy wagon, get your picture taken with Santa on the square, & more.  All events here.
  • Christmas Craft & Vendor Show will be held  December 5th 9 am – 3 pm at Blue Heron Events Center, 407 S. Washington Street, Greencastle.  There will be Raffles, Food, Crafts for Kids, Santa from 10am-2pm and more! 40 Crafters and Vendors.

St. Thomas

  • St Thomas Vol. Fire & Rescue #18, 34 School House Rd, will be having their annual dinner with Santa and Christmas tree lighting on Saturday, December 5th from 4pm to 6pm. Free spaghetti dinner with Santa from 4pm to 5:30pm; Christmas caroling at 5:30pm; Christmas tree lighting is at 6pm. There will be cookies, hot chocolate, and crafts and story books for the kids.

Waynesboro

  • Enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of Christmas at Renfrew Museum and Park on Friday December 4th from 5:30-8:30pm and on Saturday December 5th from 2-8pm.  The museum house (Renfrew is a 200 year old restored Pennsylvania German farmstead) will be fully decorated for Christmas, with period interpreters in each room. A one-act play will also be going on in the Visitors Center with light refreshments provided.  Admission: $8 for adults $7 seniors $5 ages 7-18 Free ages 6 & under. Free to Members.

Rouzerville

  • The Santa Express Train Ride will be held on Saturday, December 5th from 1:00 until 3:00 at Red Run Park in Rouzerville. Free miniature train rides for all ages. Meet Santa, Rudolph, Frosty and the Christmas elves. Refreshments available in the train station.

McConnellsburg

  • The Fulton County Festival of Lights is a “Drive Through” Christmas Light Display located at the Fulton County Fairgrounds in McConnellsburg. The Christmas Light Displays are set up along the roadways throughout the fairgrounds where visitors will drive through the event in their own vehicles.  The 2015 Festival of Lights will be held Friday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 5 and the following week Friday, Dec. 11 and Saturday, Dec. 12. The times are 5 pm – 10 pm on all nights.  Visitors to the light display enter through the upper fairgrounds gate and pay $4 per vehicle. Read more HERE.

Mechanicsburg

  • Oakes Museum of Natural History is having a Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 5th, from 1- 5 PM.  There will be a winter craft project for children, a story time about animals in winter, a winter photo booth, special discounts in the gift shop, drawings for museum gift certificates, a behind the scenes tour of our new mobile storage system, and refreshments will be served. Admission is free.

Harrisburg

  • The 2015 PA Christmas & Gift Show is being held December 2 – 6, 2015 at the PA Farm Show Complex.  Wednesday, Dec 2 — 9 AM to 7 PM; Thursday, Dec 3 —  9 AM to 7 PM; Friday, Dec 4 — 9 AM to 7 PM; Saturday, Dec 5 — 9 AM to 7 PM; Sunday, Dec 6 — 10 AM to 5 PM.  Weis Markets is currently offering discounted tickets for $7 (regular price $8). Children under 12 free with parent.  Senior Citizen discounted tickets (62 and over) are $5 (regular price is $6). Tickets after 4 pm are $6.00, and can only be purchased at the door. 

Ongoing Christmas Events, Light Displays & Holiday Attractions

  • Polar Bear Express at Rockhill Furnace will be held Nov 27 – Dec 13, Fridays and Saturdays 6:30-9pm at the Rockhill Trolley Museum. Take a night-time ride on an enclosed and heated, restored, antique trolley and see the lighted holiday displays and sing carols along the way, then enjoy free hot chocolate & cookies by the bonfire back at the Pavilion.
  • The Winter Wonderland at Dutch Wonderland continues this weekend with select dates.  Please refer to their website for dates & times.  Enjoy rides and attractions, games, festive entertainment, and The Royal Light Show.  Dutch Wonderland is located at 2249 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, PA.
  • Hersheypark Candylane continues this weekend and is double the size with 4 million lights, 9 new rides – including 4 coasters – Cocoa Cruiser, Wildcat, Laff Trakk and sooperdooperLooper. There are more than 20 kiddie rides are available.  Christmas Candylane tickets are regularly $18.00. Giant’s price is HERE.
  • Santa’s Wonderland at Bass Pro Shops, 3501 Paxton Street, Harrisburg.  There are free crafts, games, and activities.  Kids get a FREE 4×6 photo with Santa.  Please refer to the website for specific times.
  • The Trains of Christmas at Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum continues this weekend.  Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays 1 – 5 pm. The Trains of Christmas Show features an “O” Scale 3-Rail Christmas layout with steam and diesel trains by Lionel, MTH, Williams, Weaver, and other operating in snow scene on four levels. Railroad artifacts, photos, trains for kids to run, and a gift shop too! Admission: $5 Adults; $.50 Kids (ages 12 & under).
  • Whitaker Center’s Holiday Trains & Trees exhibit is open.  Beautifully decorated trees, surrounded by themed toy train sets and hands-on activities.  Holiday Trains and Trees is included with standard Science Center admission. The Holiday Film Series at the Whitaker Center continues with Its a Wonderful Life this weekend.  The Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts is located at 222 Market Street, Harrisburg.
  • Benchfield Farms will be offering Carriage rides in downtown Carlisle (weather permitting) on Friday, December 4 6 pm – 9 pm. Carriage rides will cost $5 for Adults, $3 Children Ages 6 -12, children 5 and under are free. Rides will load and unload next to the Old Courthouse at Hanover and High streets. Private carriage rides will cost $25.00; reservations are not required, but recommended. To reserve a private or larger group ride with Benchfield Farms Carriage call 717-269-8554. More dates here.
  • Santa will be at Walmart (in Chambersburg) on Dec 5-6 and Dec 12-13 11 am – 4 pm.
  • Bell Avenue Christmas Lights located near the corner of Sollenberger Road and Bell Avenue in Chambersburg features a light show with over 15,000 lights set to music.  When you arrive, tune to 106.5FM to enjoy the show and holiday music.  Sun-Thur: 5:30-9:30pm & Fri & Sat: 5:30-10:30pm.  Shows may not run during bad weather.
  • The Wilson Family’s Christmas Lights Show at 490 Starr Avenue, Chambersburg will run daily from 5pm-10pm November 29 until January 3rd.  The animated show with over 100,000 lights will raise money for The Arc of Cumberland & Perry Counties (CPARC) this year.
  • The Little Family’s Christmas Lights at 1290 Mallard Drive East in Chambersburg will run December 1st through January 1 5:30 pm – 10 pm.  The Christmas Light Spectacular is in support of The Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter.
  • ZooLights at the National Zoo in Washington, DC is a holiday event transforming the zoo into a winter wonderland.   Animal silhouettes, musical light displays, and a garden scene light sculpture are featured in more than 500,000 lights!  The event runs November 27 – January 1 from 5 pm – 9pm (closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve).  ZooLights is powered by Pepco and is free with no tickets required.
