Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend in Shippensburg and Beyond!

Shippensburg

The Annual Winter Fest at Shippensburg Area Intermediate School is Friday, February 5th from 5 pm -8 pm.  The public is invited to the PTO sponsored Winterfest night with games, activities, and food.  Wristbands are $10 (with meal) or $8 (without meal).

The Local Gathering is hosting a Winter Rummage Sale February 6 8 AM-2 PM.  All proceeds go to The Local Gathering Missions.  The Local Gathering is located at 611 Shippensburg Rd (RT696 3 miles past the University).

Katie’s Place Rummage Sale is this week, Feb. 4, 5, and 6 from 8 am noon.  Go here for the details.  Katie’s Place is at the corner of S. Penn and E. Garfield streets.

Book Nook at the Shippensburg Public Library has all children’s books buy one get one free in February. Also any library discards are $.75 each. The books are gently used and/or library discards. Go here for hours of operation.

Roxbury

The Blue Mountain Skating Rink is located 1 mile west of Roxbury, PA on Rt 641.  The roller skating rink is open for public skating on Friday evenings from 7-9 PM Admission is only $3 and skate rentals are $1.  Kids 6 and under are FREE and non-skating adults are FREE.

Carlisle

Stroll downtown Carlisle on Saturday, February 6, 2016, from 2 pm to 4 pm for the first ever Sweetheart Stroll!  This event is geared towards grown-ups, particularly “sweethearts”, who will enjoy a brisk walk around downtown Carlisle to discover the small businesses it has to offer.  Participating businesses will be offering special treats and deals during the stroll.  On the day of the event, a Map of Hearts can be picked up at Georgie Lou’s Retro Candy, 56 W High Street, which will detail participating businesses and their offerings for the day.

Chambersburg

On February 5th, a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter will be held from 4-8 p.m. in the cafeteria of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School, 511 S. Sixth St., Chambersburg.  Spaghetti, meatballs, bread stick, two sides, dessert and drink; takeout containers available for food only.  $6 advance, $8 at the door.  Tickets at CVAS, 5051 Letterkenny Road West, or the shelter’s thrift stores at 66 S. Main St., Chambersburg, and 1 E. King St., Shippensburg.

Greene Township Municipal Park, 996 Elevator Street, Scotland has a 50′ by 97′ outdoor ice skating rink to enjoy over the winter months. Skating is FREE and done at one’s own risk. Participants must bring their own skates.  Use of the rink will be open daily to the public from dawn to dusk.  The outdoor skating rink is weather and temperature dependent, so please visit HERE for daily updates.

Camp Hill

Buck a Book Bookfair at the Camp Hill Barnes & Noble (58 S. 32nd St., Camp Hill) is Saturday, February 6. There will be face painting and crafts, the Carlisle High School football team and cheerleaders will be reading stories, Carlisle High School and Carlisle Elementary students will perform, Sylvan Edge will offer fun STEM activities, and Buck a Book Kids will be reading their newly published Wordy Worm stories!

Gettysburg

Gettysburg Rocks is coming February 4th-6th.  During the Gettysburg Rocks event, live performances of more than 172 bands in and around Gettysburg will help conquer childhood cancer by assisting children treated at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital and their families. Admission is free at all venues with 100 percent of the donations going to the Four Diamonds Fund benefiting THON. The event kicks off on Thursday, Feb. 4 and continues on Friday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 6.  Multiple genres of music will be performed including rock, country, blues, Americana, Reggae, punk, metal, pop, classic rock, and more. York

York’s winter auto racing show, Racing Xtravaganza, features race cars, exhibits, booths, and more.  The show will run in the Utz Arena at the York Expo Center on Saturday and Sunday. Show times are 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Open Skate at York City Ice Arena on Saturday, February 6.  York City Ice Arena, 941 Vander Ave, York, PA 17403 1:00 PM – 3:45 PM $7 per skater, $3 per skate rental. Discount passbooks are available.

Harrisburg

The Great American Outdoor Show is a nine-day event (Feb 6 – 14) celebrating hunting, fishing, and outdoor traditions. The show features over 1,000 exhibitors ranging from shooting manufacturers to outfitters to fishing boats and RVs, archery and art. The schedule includes country concerts, fundraising dinners, speaking events, archery competitions, and more. 9am-7pm on Feb 6, 10am-5pm on Feb 7, 10am-7pm on Feb 8-12, 9am-7pm on Feb 13, and 10am-5pm on Feb 14. Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center, Harrisburg.

Mechanicsburg

On Feb. 6, guest artist Stuart Malina, music director and conductor of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, joins Messiah faculty members Ya-Ting Chang, Patrice Ewoldt, and Richard Roberson in an evening of two-piano masterpieces. This event is free and open to the public; no tickets required. Sponsored by the Messiah College School of the Arts the concert is at Messiah College’s Recital Hall from 7:30 – 10 pm.

Hershey

Zoo America logo

Zoo America has $5.50 Fridays where all visitors get in for $5.50 every Friday during the winter through March 18, 2016.  Admission is regularly $11 per person for ages 9-54, $9 for ages 3-8 & 55+, and free for ages 2 and under.
