Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend!

SHIPPENSBURG

On Friday, July 8th, celebrate the release of Tyler Michael Law’s CD, Highway Born at the Thought Lot.  FREE admission. Doors open at 6 PM, Music starts at 7 PM.  Special Guest Emily Barnes.  The Thought Lot is located at 37 East Garfield Street, Shippensburg.

The Shippensburg Memorial Park Pool will be open for FREE for the 4th of July Pool Party on Saturday, July 9 from 12 PM – 6 PM. Pool games will begin at 2 PM and will include relay races, lifeguard challenge, pop drop, water balloon toss, water balloon fight, and more!   Candy Scramble at 3:30 PM.

On Saturday, July 9th at 10 AM, head on into Lowe’s where kids can build a FREE Avenger’s Marvel Falcon Character.  You must register your child here. Spots fill up quickly.

BEYOND SHIPPENSBURG

The 34th Annual Craft Fair at Caledonia State Park will be held Saturday, July 9th from 9 AM to 4 PM.  Approximately 150 vendors will have a variety of arts & crafts for sale.  Free Admission.  Caledonia State Park is located at 101 Pine Grove Road, Fayetteville.

Spend a day in the past at the annual Rural Life Festival on Saturday, July 9th.  The Rural Life Festival is presented by Newburg United Methodist Church, 203 North High St. and takes place in the fields around the church.  Admission and parking are FREE for the event, which begins at 9 AM rain or shine. Highlights include Antique Farm Machinery, Working Steam Engine, Grain Thrashing, Horse Drawn Binder, Scrapple Making, Fresh Apple Cider, Grain to Loaf Bread Baking, Children’s Pedal Tractor Pull, Horse Wagon Rides, Barrel Train, Children’s Activities, Petting Zoo, Potato raising, Cow Milking, Butter Making, Sheep Shearing, Spinning & Weaving, Quilting, Broom Making, Blacksmith, Wood Working!  Food available to purchase include Homemade soups, Chicken Bar-B-Q, Ice Cream, Hand cut French Fries, Sandwiches & more!

Totem Pole Playhouse will present a FREE Children’s Theatre performance of “Rumpelstiltskin” at 10 AM beginning Saturday, July 9th, and continuing July 16th, 23th and 30th. This show is suitable for children of all ages. Stay for a meet & greet after the show.  Totem Pole Playhouse, 9555 Golf Course Road, Fayetteville is located in Caledonia State Park between Chambersburg and Gettysburg.

The 49th Annual Greencastle Sidewalk Days will be here July 8 & 9, 2016! The annual Sidewalk Days features sales at downtown stores, street-side vendors, food and entertainment.  Over 60 craft vendors line Baltimore and Carlisle Streets. Food vendors & Musical entertainment from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM on Friday, July 8 and from 8:30 AM to 4 PM on Saturday, July 8th.

The Independence Day celebration at Chambersburg’s Memorial Park was rescheduled to Saturday, Juy 9, 2016.  The new schedule of events at Memorial Park in Chambersburg on Saturday, July 9th: Noon — 4:00 PM Car Show; Noon — 9:30 PM Food Stands; 3:00 PM — 9:00 PM Games; 7:30 PM — 9:30 PM Mercersburg Concert. Approximately 9:30 PM Annual Fireworks Display.

The 57th annual Newville Lions Club fair will be held July 6-9, 2016 at the Newville Fairgrounds. There will be free admission every night.  On Friday, July 8 at 10 PM there will be the Annual Fireworks Show.

Dickinson College will host the 21st Annual Bluegrass on the Grass Festival on Saturday, July 9th, from Noon – 8 PM on the Bosler Hall porch on the Dickinson campus, West High Street between West and North College streets. The lawn can be accessed starting at 8 AM on the day of the festival. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. A wide array of vendors will sell food ranging from french fries to Thai food, plus non-alcoholic drinks. Festival is held rain or shine.

Waynesboro’s Fireworks are Saturday, July 9th at dusk (rescheduled date).

The Hagerstown Regional Airport will have a Fly-in, Drive-in Breakfast on July 9 at the Hagerstown Regional Airport. There will be Young Eagle plane rides, free to ages 8-17, weather permitting, 9 AM – Noon.  FREE Young Eagle Rides, First Come, First Flown will be held weather permitting.  All you can eat Breakfast, 8:00 – 11:30 AM; Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, Toast, Coffee, Orange Juice.  The price is Adults $7, Children 6-12 $4, Under 6 free.   Lunch 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m. Hot dogs, Hamburgers, French Fries: A la carte! Free parking for at the main terminal, Aircraft parking on apron next to Firehouse.  You can learn more about the Young Eagles program by going online to youngeagles.org.

CHAMBERSFEST EVENTS

From July 9-16, 2016, Chambersburg will be celebrating the 30th Annual ChambersFest!  Here are this weekend’s events.

ChambersFest Restaurant Week is Saturday, July 9 through Saturday, July 16.  Take advantage of restaurant week specials and enter to win prizes! View the participating restaurants, prize info, and contest information HERE.

ChambersFest Bike Day will be held Saturday, July 9 from 9 AM – 1 PM at Chambersburg Bike Park.  Compete in one or more of three bicycle events: Pump Track Race; Best Trick Jump Contest; and Short Track Cross-Country Race at the Chambersburg Bike Park. Various categories to include ages 6 to adults. Registration and practice from 9-11 AM., racing begins at 11 AM. Helmets required.

Scoop-A-Palooza is an all you can eat ice cream festival on Saturday, July 9th from 11 AM – 3 PM in the Cafeteria of Chambersburg Area Senior High School. There will be Kids activities too! For more information including ticket prices go to here.

Second Saturday is from 5 to 10 PM at Chambers Fort Park.  The free event features outdoor concerts (Wings that Buzz with opener Jon Ingels) at Chambers Fort Park from 5 – 8 PM, followed by a showing of Back to the Future. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnics.

ONGOING ACTIVITIES

A Miniature Train rides the rails at Norlo Park, 3050 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville on Saturdays. It is open to riders of all ages. The train, complete with a cattle car and caboose, is FREE to ride on Saturdays weather permitting from 1 PM to 4 PM throughout Summer & Fall!

North Square Farmers Market, 50 N. Main Street, Saturday, July 9th from 8 AM to NoonChildren ages 3 -12 can sign up for POP (Power of Produce) Club.  Members receive $2 in tokens per market visit to be used on produce or vegetable plant.

Cumberland Drive-In Theatre, 3290 Ritner Highway, Newville  Friday – Sunday July 8th – 10th 1st Feature:  The Secret Life of Pets  2nd Feature:  Warcraft:  Two Worlds. One Home.   Gates open at 7 p.m. First Feature begins at approximately 9:10 PM.

Michael’s Kids Club is every Saturday from 10 AM – Noon for ages 3 and up. For $2 your child can make a seasonal craft for 30 minutes while you shop! 

Beginning now through July 24 every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday from Noon – 5 PM, Bass Pro Shops will have activities and workshops!  Hands on activities (archery, BB range, casting buckets & the ZING arcade) will run daily Noon- 5 PM.   Craft runs daily Noon-2 PM (new craft each week).   Educational Workshops will start daily at Noon and begin on the hour thru 4 PM.   Complete a workshop and receive the corresponding pin for your 2016 Family Summer Camp lanyard!
