SHIPPENSBURG

There will be a Back to School Splash Party at the Shippensburg Memorial Park Pool on Friday, Aug. 11 from 7PM-10PM.  $2 Admission.

Join the Shippensburg Chamber of Commerce for a FREE Family Event at the Shippensburg Fairgrounds on Saturday, August 12, 2017. The Family Fun Day will be held from 11AM – 2PM and is a way for families to gain valuable information on programs available in our area. There will be Educational and Interactive exhibits, FREE Pizza, FREE Entertainment, Giveaways!  This is a rain or shine event.

The 9th Annual Blessing of the Backpacks will be held on Saturday, August 12 from 4PM – 7PM.  Many Shippensburg churches, local organizations and non-profits will come together at Memorial Lutheran Church to provide school supplies for area students.  All events and activities are FREE including dinner.  At 7PM, Blessing of the Backpacks & Door prizes.

There will be a Power Wheels Derby for ages 3 – 8 on Saturday, August 12 at 24 W. Garfield St.  Registration will be from 2:30PM – 3:30PM. Power Wheels Derby starts at 4PM. Two age groups: 3-5 and 6-8.

CHAMBERSBURG

The 2nd Saturday at Chambers Fort Park features FREE Music (Shawan and the Wonton along with openers Allison & Dave’s String Band) from 5-8PM & The Lego Batman Movie at dusk.  Bring blankets or lawn chairs.

The CV Steam and Gas Show will be held at Twin Bridges Campground on August 11 – 13.  Large Tractor Display, Steam Engines, Saw Milling, Stone Crushing, Threshing, Blacksmith Shop, Kiddie Tractor Pulls, Daily Parade.

North Square Farmers Market, 50 N. Main Street, will be held Saturday, August 12 from 8AM to NoonChildren ages 3 -12 can sign up for POP (Power of Produce) Club.  Members receive $2 in tokens per market visit to be used on produce or vegetable plant.

A Miniature Train rides the rails at Norlo Park, 3050 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville on Saturdays. It is open to riders of all ages. The train, complete with a cattle car and caboose, is FREE to ride from 1PM to 4PM throughout Summer & Fall.

Thursday, August 10 through Saturday, August 12, is the semi-annual Kid Closet Connection consignment sale of children’s clothing, baby items, toys, and more.  The sale is at Montessori Academy, 875 Ragged Edge Rd., Chambersburg from 11AM – 7PM Thursday & Friday; 8AM – Noon Saturday.

WAYNESBORO

37th Annual Civil War Encampment is August 12 & 13 on the grounds of Renfrew Museum and Park. The weekend event will enhance the public’s understanding of the daily life of Union and Confederate soldiers and the civilians that supported the troops on each side of the conflict. The encampment will host between 250-400 re-enactors. Renfrew’s Royer Farmstead Day will be held in conjunction with the encampment on August 12. The museum house and farmstead buildings will be open for free walk-through tours. A concession stand will be set up onsite during meal times and proceeds from food purchases will benefit Renfrew Museum and Park.

GREENCASTLE

Saturday August 12th is the Greencastle Sportman’s Association Ox Roast. Sliced & ground Ox Sandwiches, Fresh Cut Fries, Homemade Soups.  Brushfire will be performing.  Free parking & admission.

NEWVILLE/CARLISLE

This weekend’s double-feature at Cumberland Drive-in is “Nut Job 2:  Nutty by Nature” and “Wonder Woman.”  Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is located at 3290 Ritner Highway.  Gates open at 7PM.  First Feature begins at approximately 8:35PM.

The 2017 Cumberland Ag Expo is going on now through August 13 at the Newville Lions Fairgrounds. There are dairy and animal exhibitions, shows, 4H presentations, children’s activities, food, music and more.  View the complete schedule here.

GETTYSBURG/HANOVER

The 2017 Peach Fest is this weekend at Hollabaugh Bros. Inc Fruit Farm and Market in Biglerville.  On August 12 & 13th, enjoy music, food, and activities for kids.  Home-Made Peach Ice Cream Sundaes, Wagon Rides, Moon bounce, Children’s activities & face painting, Food, Samples, and Peaches.  No admission fee – just $1 to park. This is a Rain or Shine event from Noon – 5PM Saturday and Sunday.

MECHANICSBURG/HARRISBURG

The Annual Harrisburg Kennel Club Show will be held August 11-13.  It is part of the three day Keystone Cluster at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg.

MANHEIM

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is held on the grounds of the Mount Hope Estate.  With over 90 stage shows daily, 22 Royal Kitchens and scores of artisan merchants with handcrafted wares, the Renaissance Faire invites guests to immerse themselves in the 35-acre village and experience the fantasy.  Each weekend will showcase a unique theme:  Aug. 12 & 13 – World Carnival. 

MARYLAND

Turners Bowling Centers are celebrating their 66th anniversary this weekend, August 11-13.  Bowl for just $.66 a game.  Hot dogs & 16 oz Pepsi fountain sodas $.66.  Turner Bowling is located at 1350 Dual Highway and 17325 Virginia Ave. in Hagerstown.

The Leitersburg Peach Festival is August 12 & 13 from 9AM – 5PM.  Family event featuring 120 craft and art vendors, blacksmith and chainsaw carving demonstrations, fresh peaches and peach products from local orchards including peach pies and peach ice cream. Free live music from 4 different local bands, petting zoo, barrel train rides, climbing wall and face painting for the children. Free Parking, Free Admission, Free Entertainment & Music.

The Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week for 2017 is Sunday, August 13 – Saturday, August 19. That means qualifying apparel and footwear $100 or less, per item, are exempt from the 6 percent state sales tax. Accessory items are not included.  For more information, visit marylandtaxes.com.
