Shippensburg/Newburg

A Special Events Consignment Sale will be held Friday evening, March 16, 4PM – 9PM at the Multi-Purpose Center, 56 Cleversburg RoadThe consignment sale will include a selection of formal dresses, wedding gowns, prom dresses, tuxedos and accessories. 

On March 17, enjoy the Newburg Hopewell Volunteer Fire Department’s Amish Wedding Meal held at Newburg United Methodist Church, 203 N High Street.  The meal will be served from 2PM till sold out (approximately 6-7PM). Price:  Adults $12; Children ages 5-10 $6; Children 4 and under FREE.  The menu is Chicken Filling, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Homemade Noodles, Creamed Celery, Peas, Homemade Donuts, Cakes and Pies.  Take out is available.

Shippensburg Church of the Brethren’s Youth Pot Pie Supper is March 17, 4PM – 7PM.  Pot Pie Supper (Beef, Chicken & Ham). Takeouts Available.  Benefits the Youth Group Mission and Conference Trips.  $10 Adults; $4.50 for Children 12 and Under.  Location: 253 E Garfield Street

The Cumberland Valley Hitmen (local semi-pro football team) will take on the Tigers at Veterans Stadium on March 17 at 1PM.  FREE admission.  Concessions available.

CJ’s is hosting a 5th Anniversary event on March 17.  Happy Hour Specials from 8-11 PM, $5 Appetizers (Bruschetta, Fried Zucchini, Cheesy Bread, Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms, BBQ Chicken Flatbread), live music by the band Nocandu, and giveaways.

The 5th Annual St. Patrick’s Day 5k Race at the Southampton Township Community Center will take place on Saturday, March 17, 10:30AM.  Register Online at Timber Hill Timing.  Same day registration ($25) will begin at 9AM at the STCC Multi-Purpose Center, 56 Cleversburg Rd, Shippensburg.

All children are invited to join in the Easter fun at Orrstown UB Church on Saturday, March 17, 10AM.  Games, crafts, an egg hunt, and a puppet show.

The Cat in the Hat will be performed at 1PM and 4PM, Sunday, March 18 at The H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center at Shippensburg University.  Reserved tickets ($15) can be purchased by visiting or calling the Luhrs Center box office at 717-477-7469 or go to www.luhrscenter.com. This program is approximately one hour in length, and is appropriate for grades K-4.

Walnut Bottom/Carlisle

Meadowbrooke Gourds, located at 125 Potato Road Carlisle, is having its Spring Fest on March 17 & 18.  Pre-registration is required for the create-your-own gourd workshops.  Find all the details at Spring Fest 2018.

On Saturday March 17, 2018, 8AM – 2PM is Trinity Fellowship’s Spring Bloom Craft Show.  Many homemade, handcrafted items of all kinds, extensive breakfast and lunch menu, and bargains from Trinity’s Clothing Closet.  Plenty of free parking too.  Trinity Fellowship Center is located at 110 West Main Street (Walnut Bottom Road, Rt. 174) in the village of Walnut Bottom.

Chambersburg

Visit the Easter Bunny at the Chambersburg Mall beginning March 16 through March 31.

Royer’s Kids Club is having a FREE St. Patrick’s Day event in stores on Saturday, March 17.  Children ages 5 to 12 will have an opportunity to make a special St. Patrick’s Day arrangement.  Time slots are available at 10AM and 2PM at each of Royer’s Flowers stores in Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties. Registration is required by calling your nearest Royer’s store.

 

The Cumberland Valley Model Railroad Club hosts a Spring Open House on Sunday, March 18 for the public to view their model trains in action.  Their clubhouse at 440 Nelson Street, Chambersburg will be open from Noon – 4PM.  Come see every major train scale – 10 different gauges, over 55 trains operating at the same time, dozens of highly detailed scenes, and thousands of feet of track! This is a FREE event (donations are accepted) with plenty of free parking too.

Waynesboro

The Waynesboro Area School District’s All-School Production Team’s performance of Shrek The Musical will run March 16-18 at the Waynesboro Area Senior High School auditorium.  Performances will be held at 7PM, March 16 and 17 and at 2PM March 18.  Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for children under 12.

An All You Can Eat Spaghetti Dinner on March 16, 5PM-8PM is a fundraiser for the Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department.  $8-Adults (12+), $5 for kids 5-12, under 5 FREE. The dinner is also the same night as the All School Production.  Parking & entrance to the meal is located in back of fire hall, plenty of parking in the Rotary lot.

Mechanicsburg/Camp Hill/Harrisburg

Join Ashcombe Farm & Greenhouses for their annual open house event on March 17.  Creative displays, special guests, seminars, classes, new gardening items, and a sneak peek at new plant varieties for the upcoming season.  Children’s Craft Station (free), 11-3PM: Each child will be able to plant a jiffy peat pellet with a vegetable seed. Let’s talk about Pollinators (free), 11AM: Meghan Deiter, vice president of Welliver Outdoors, will give an informative talk about different pollinators. New in the Nursery (free), 1PM: Ashcombe’s Nursery manager, Brandon, will tell you all about new trees, shrubs, and perennials for 2018.

A Mad Hatter Tea Party at the Capital City Mall is March 17, 11AM – 2PM.  Take part in a children’s Alice in Wonderland themed tea party.  Meet Alice and the Mad Hatter; enjoy a sing-a-long to your favorite Easter songs and more. Visit the Easter Bunny and purchase a keepsake photo, Meet Alice and the Mad Hatter, Face Painting by Elizabeth, Live Music by Kent Courtney, Kids Craft Activities by Party Belles, Snacks, Selfie Station.  Register HERE for this free event.

New Freedom

Steam Into History is offering an Easter train ride on March 18, the Eggspecially Fun Bunny Run with banjo and guitar player, Jeff Greenawalt. Visit and take photos with the Easter Bunny while riding on the train. Your 40 minute ride will take you along the beautiful rail trail with song and stories. Once you are back at the station in New Freedom, children will be invited to participate in an egg hunt. Maryland Events

The 48th Annual Maple Syrup Festival will take place March 10 & 11, 17 & 18 in the William Houck Lake area of Cunningham Falls State Park from 10AM – 2PM each day.  Pancakes, sausage, and maple syrup products will be for sale (cash only). $3 admission donation for adults, $2 admission donation for youth group members, children in safety seats are free.  A maple syrup making demonstration will start every hour.  Kids can enjoy free games, stories and crafts in a large, heated tent. Live music will be provided by local bands.

The 24th Annual HCC Flower & Garden Show is this weekend at the Hagerstown Community College in the Athletic, Recreation and Community Center. Times: Saturday, March 17, 9AM to 5PM and Sunday, March 18, 10AM to 4PM.   Browse garden displays, buy plants and meet garden experts; enjoy seminars and demonstrations on gardening topics throughout both days; gardening activities for kids and much more. Admission is just $5 for adults and kids under 12 are free.
