May/June Roundup: Community Fairs, Fireman’s Carnivals, & Summer Festivals

It’s Fair time! Carnivals,  fairs, and festivals are coming up around South Central PA. Make plans to attend some of the fairs and festivals in Shippensburg, Carlisle, Chambersburg, and Beyond!

MAY 2022
Burd Street Carnival | May 24 – 29, 2022 | SHIPPENSBURG

The Burd Street Carnival will be held at Shippensburg’s West Burd Street parking lot beside the police station from May 24 through May 29. The Spring Carnival is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Memorial Park Pool (FMPP), a 501c3 organization currently raising money to build a new community pool in Shippensburg. Snyder’s Attractions provides rides, games, and food. There will be an ATM on-site, but ride ticket sales and most food stands will accept cards. Pay one price will be available nightly for $22 per person. Regular tickets are $1.25 each, $20 for 20, or $38 for 40. Rides will take two or more tickets. As always, each ride has a specific height restriction.

Branch Creek Place will also be having Bingo beginning at 4 PM on Tuesday through Sunday. Branch Creek Place is a short walk to the Carnival. In addition, the Shippensburg Swing Band will perform at the Coy Public Library as part of the Burd Street Festival on Saturday, May 28, from 1 PM – 3 PM. The event is sponsored by Re/Max Prestige of Shippensburg/Carlisle.


JUNE 2022
Foundry Day Arts & Crafts Festival | June 4, 2022 | BOILING SPRINGS

The Foundry Day Arts & Crafts Festival is a juried art and crafts festival held on the first Saturday of June next to the Children’s Lake in Boiling Springs.  The festival runs from 9 AM to 4 PM and features the original works of 100 fine artists and craftsmen, music, entertainment, food, and more. Food concessions will be along Third Street. Admission is free.  Rain or shine.  Free parking and shuttles from the Boiling Springs high school parking lot.


Fayetteville Fireman’s Carnival | June 2-11, 2022 | FAYETTEVILLE

The 2022 Fayetteville Firemen’s Carnival will be held June 2 – 11 at the carnival grounds at 101 W. Main Street in Fayetteville! Gates open at 5 PM every night. There is free parking and free admission. The whole family will enjoy ten nights of rides (by Penn Valley Shows), games, food trucks (Uncle Eddies BBQ and Alycia’s Food Truck), live entertainment, and the fire company’s food stand. In addition, the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department will be offering their famous homemade Chicken Corn Soup and Ham & Bean Soup. Fireworks will be on June 11 at dark (the rain date is June 10).

 Strawberry Festival | June 4 & 5, 2022 | BIGLERVILLE

Hollabaugh Bros., Inc. Fruit Farm & Market has their Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 4, and Sunday, June 5, from Noon to 4:30 PM. There will be live music, a food truck, wagon rides, lawn games, and strawberry everything!  Fresh Strawberry Sundaes, Strawberry Pies, Strawberries n’ Shortcake, a free Strawberry craft, and a scavenger hunt for kids. Saturday and Sunday, listen to Paul Zavinsky play various blues, country, and folk. Hollabaugh Bros., Inc. is located just outside Biglerville at 545 Carlisle Road.


Marion Festivals | June 4, 11, 18, 25, 2022 | MARION

The 2022 Marion Festivals, sponsored by the Marion Athletic Association, Marion Town Committee, and Marion Volunteer Fire Company, will be held on four Saturdays in June. On June 4, June 11, June 18, and June 25, festival-goers can enjoy good food, games, and entertainment on the Marion Festival Grounds. The kitchen will open at 4:30 PM. There is no charge to park. In addition, there will be two free shows each night – 6:15 PM and 8:15 PM.

West Pennsboro Volunteer Fire Co. Annual Fair & Festival | June 9, 10, 11, 2022 | PLAINFIELD

The West Pennsboro Volunteer Fire Co. Fair & Festival is on three nights, June 9-11.  Plenty of homemade food, fun, and music!  Pit Beef Sandwiches on Friday and Saturday from 5 PM until gone.  Live music each night:  Thursday – LeBlanc & Kissinger; Friday – Monkey Down; Saturday – North Mountain RamblersFree parking and free admission.  The fair starts at 4 PM nightly and is located at the fire company’s station, 20 Park Road in Plainfield.


Bloom Festival | June 11, 2022 | SHIPPENSBURG

The Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce hosts the 7th annual Bloom Festival in downtown Shippensburg on Saturday, June 11, from 9 AM – 3 PM. The festival takes place rain or shine in the parking lot of the Shippensburg Firefighters Activity Center, 33 W. Orange St., Shippensburg. Admission is free. The festival includes craft, retail, & food vendors, plant & flower sales, music, children’s activities, and more!


Heritage Day | June 12, 2022 | CARLISLE

Celebrate the history and heritage of Kings Gap on Sunday, June 12, from 1 PM – 5 PM. Participants will step back in time and experience life around the time the Mansion was built….the 1920s.  There is free admission.  The Friends of Kings Gap will be selling hot dogs and lemonade. Heritage Day features:  Blacksmith Demos (Drunken Smithy),  Historic Games, Kid’s Doll Craft, Historical Dress (Cumberland County Historical Society), Mansion & Carriage House Tours, History Scavenger Hunts, Special Mansion History Exhibits, Music of the Era, Ice Cream Making & Tasting, Adams Charitable Trust sponsors Free Horse-Drawn Wagon Rides, and Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides (small fee applies). Carriage and wagon rides are weather-dependent. Kings Gap Environmental Education Center is located at 500 Kings Gap Rd., Carlisle, PA 17015-9306.


Jubilee Day | June 16, 2022 | MECHANICSBURG

Jubilee Day, a one-day street fair in downtown Mechanicsburg, is Thursday, June 16, from 10 AM – 9 PM.  This annual event features more than 325 vendors offering food, games, arts & crafts, business information, retail products, carnival rides, and more. In addition, there is a children’s area and live entertainment on two stages.  The festival is free – unless you buy something, of course.


Newville Fountain Festival | June 17 & 18, 2022 | NEWVILLE

The annual Newville Fountain Festival will return to the fountain in downtown Newville on June 17 & June 18. This two-day event features a parade, craft vendors, food, live music, duck derby, pony rides, a book sale, a baking contest, and much more.

Friday, June 17

  • The food court opens at 4:00 PM.
  • Porch Decorating Contest winners will be announced at 6:00 PM
  • Trivia Contest – 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM Borough Council v. Big Spring Kiwanis
  • Shippensburg Swing Band, 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM
  • The parade forms at 6:00 PM on Broad Street, and the parade will start at 7:00 PM.
  • Newville Slide Show Presentation by Historian Bob Over, 8:30 PM at Ingram Hall, Zion Lutheran Church
  • Tractor Twang Line Dance from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM
  • The Festival closes at 10:00 PM

  • Friendship Hose Company Breakfast, 8 AM to 10 AM
  • 5k Run at 9 AM
  • Baking Contest, Judging, and Auction at 9 AM sponsored by the Big Spring Senior Center.
  • Tractor and Farm Equipment Show on Parsonage St, 10 AM to 2 PM
  • Friends of the John Graham Library Book sale all day on the library grounds
  • Walking tours of Big Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery at 10 AM & 11 AM
  • Duck Derby at the fountain, 11 AM for children 4-12 years old
  • Invited Civil War Re-enactors “The Bucktails,” the encampment at 1 Parsonage St
  • Pony Rides on Heller Street by Winsome Farms
  • Tours of the Green Ridge Train Museum from 10 AM to 2 PM with a courtesy shuttle bus provided by Presbyterian Homes.
  • Mr. Mike’s Dinosaur Show, 11 AM on Parsonage Street, sponsored by the Big Spring Kiwanis
  • Red 101 DJ throughout the day; Live Music from 12Noon to 3 PM by the Klinger McFry Band.
  • Food, craft, and public service vendors on Parsonage Street, West Street, and W. Big Spring Avenue.
  • Festival contest winners will be announced at 2:30 PM. The festival will close at 3:00 PM.

Mont Alto Firemen’s Carnival | June 10 – June 18, 2022 | MONT ALTO

The Mont Alto Firemen’s Carnival features nine nights of family fun, great food, and plenty to do! The 2022 carnival takes place from Friday, June 10, to Saturday, June 18. The kitchen opens at 5:30 PM every evening. The carnival includes rides, activities, bingo, small games for cash and prizes, fireworks on June 17, and live music nightly. Entertainment schedule:

South Newton Township Vol. Fire Company’s Fireman’s Fair | June 23 – 25, 2022 | WALNUT BOTTOM

South Newton Fireman’s Fair is June 23, 24, and 25 at 16 Firehouse Road in Walnut Bottom. The fire company will be serving their Famous Cheeseburger Sub, Ham or Turkey Hoagies, Fair Sausages, Country Ham Sandwiches, Beef BBQ, Burgers, Hot Dogs and Soup, and Homemade Cakes and Pies. The Fireworks are scheduled for Friday, June 24, anytime after dark (the rain date is Saturday, June 25). Live entertainment nightly: Thursday night – Chris Woodward & Shindiggin; Friday Night – Mid Life Crisis; Saturday Night – Grant Bryan Band.


Fort Loudoun Market Fair | June 24 – 26, 2022 | FORT LOUDON

Step back in time and visit an 18th Century Market Fair on June 24-26 at Historic Fort Loudoun in Fort Loudon, PA. This juried event will feature over 50 18th Century artisans, a chance to shoot at marks, live music, food vendors, and a glimpse of frontier life during the 18th Century.  Hours: Friday and Saturday: 9 AM to 5 PM and Sunday: 9 AM to 4 PM.  Admission: $5 per adult; 17 and under are freeGo HERE for more information on this event.


Carlisle Summerfair | June 25 – July 4, 2022 | CARLISLE

Carlisle Summerfair is from June 25 to July 4. The community-wide celebration features various family-friendly events. A few highlights for 2022 include a craft show on the campus of Dickinson College (Saturday, June 25), concerts by Cheap Sneakers (Saturday, June 25) and the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra (Saturday, July 3), Historic Carlisle Walking Tour (Monday, June 27), Jim Thorpe Track and Field Meet (Tuesday, June 28), Children’s Fishing Derby at LeTort Park (Friday, July 1), 5k Race at Dickinson College (Saturday, July 2), Anything DON’T Float Derby Race at Carlisle Fairgrounds (Saturday, July 2).
