What’s Happening | April 21, 22, & 23

Here’s a list of opportunities to get out and about this weekend in South Central PA!

Shippensburg

A Bike Rodeo will be held at Shippensburg Memorial Park on Friday, April 21 from 6PM – 8PM.  All Children in grades K – 5 are invited to bring a bike & helmet for games, obstacle courses, and safety information. The event is hosted by the Shippensburg University Cycling Club and Cub Scout Pack 251.

Ship Shape Day is Saturday!  Join in this annual “clean-up the town” service project for Shippensburg on April 22.  Registration is at the Firefighter’s Activities Center on Orange Street beginning at 8:30AM and event starts at 9AM.   Trash bags, gloves, t-shirt and vest provided. Lunch is provided for all volunteers at the Firefighter’s Activities Center.

Cumberland Valley Hitmen will honor our veterans and public servants at their home game on April 22 at Veterans Memorial Park.  Game time is at 1PM.  FREE admission and concession stand will be open.

The Cumberland Valley Race Series present the Race, Run, Ride or Ramble on the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail on April 23. Enjoy live music by the Neegly Brothers and Chicken BBQ. The series of events held throughout the day will be based at the Shippensburg Township Park and will traverse 9.3 miles of completed rail-trail between the park and Newville.

Shippensburg Weis location is celebrating Earth Day on April 23.  Head to Weis on 4/23 to get free Milkweed seeds.

The Shippensburg University Community Orchestra will perform a Spring concert at Luhrs Performing Arts Center April 23, 3PM. Free Admission.  No ticket needed.

Newville/Carlisle

The 16th annual Kid’s Fishing Derby at Green Spring Brethren in Christ Church will be held Saturday, April 22 from 8AM – Noon.  The event is open to children ages 3-15.  All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Registration begins at 7AM on Derby Day!  Fishing starts promptly at 8AM.  FREE FISHING – Door Prizes – Food Stand!

Cumberland Drive-In Theatre is open April 21 – April 22 showing “The Fate of the Furious” and “Get Out.” Gates open at 7PM.  First feature begins at approximately 8:05PM.

The 2017 Art, Music, and Wine Walk is on April 22, Noon to 5PM.  Browse shops, taste wine, and enjoy downtown Carlisle arts district.  Tickets for this event are $18 in advance, and can be purchased in person at Pat Craig Studios, Majorie’s Gems, Castlerigg Wine Shop, Artist Market of Pomfret, Camelia’s Sin Tea Room, Lili’s Place and on the Pomfret Group’s website.

Spring Carlisle, the annual collector and classic car swap meet, runs April 19-23 with a car corral and auction filling 150 acres at the Carlisle Fairgrounds. The show opens from 7AM to 6PM Wednesday through Saturday and from 7AM to 3PM on Sunday.

The Carlisle Town Band will be in concert Sunday April 23, 3PM at First Lutheran Church, 21 S. Bedford Street.  Free Admission.

Carlisle High School will present A Midsummer Night’s Dream April 20-22 in the Swartz Auditorium at Carlisle High School.  The curtain rises at 7:30 PM, but come early for some pre-show fun!  Admission is free and donations are gladly accepted.

Chambersburg

Families with young children are invited to attend the free Early Childhood Expo at the Chambersburg Rec Center on April 22 from 9AM to 1PM.  The event will provide information for families about early childhood development, educational providers and resources as well as fun and educational activities for children.

There will be a large indoor yard sale at Montessori Academy on April 22 from 7AM – Noon. Kids items, clothes, toys, books, household goods. Fill a bag of clothes for $5.

Operation Christmas Child of South Central Pa. will conduct its tenth annual auction on April 22 starting at 3PM at the Chambersburg Mennonite Church, 1800 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg. The doors for the auction will open at 2 PM for review of items and there will be a food stand available.

Missoula Children’s Theater presents Gullivers Travels Saturday, April 22 at 3 & at 5:30PM.  Tickets can be purchased at the rehearsals at the Capitol Theater on Monday – Friday from 4:30 PM – 7 PM or at the Council for the Arts at 81 N. Main Street.

Greencastle

Camp Joy El is having their Joy El Jubilee on Saturday, April 22 from 10AM to 4 PM.  No admittance fees. Activities are free.  Chicken Barbecue from 11AM – 3:30PM. The Joy El Jubilee is a community event that showcases the programs in their ministry. Throughout the day, numerous activities take place all over the campground of Joy El. Volunteers and staff members provide events such as face painting, camp activities, hay wagon rides, giant swing, zip-line, canoeing, bake sale & craft vendors and much more.  See the flyer HERE.

Gettysburg

Land of Little Horses Farm Park will be celebrating the coming of Spring with a Spring Fling on Sunday April 23 from Noon – 5PM.  Admission will be $7.00 per person. Under 2 is free. 

Mechanicsburg

Mechanicsburg Earth Day Festival is a one-day event on April 22, 9AM – 3PM.  Music, Workshops, Vendors, and Kids’ Activities throughout the town.

Harrisburg

On Saturday April 22 (6 game time, 4:30 gates) the Harrisburg Senators are giving away a trick-or-treat backpack WITH a Hersheypark Pass for the first 1,000 kids 12 & under!  On Sunday, April 23 (1:30 game time, 12:30 gates) the first 2,000 kids 12 & under get a FREE Hersheypark Ticket!  It is also Rite Aid Family Day, Signature Sunday (come early – players will be signing autographs for 20 minutes pre-game), and post-game kids can run the bases.  Hersheypark tickets are only valid until June 30, 2017. Children must have a game ticket to receive a Hersheypark ticket.  Children 3 and under, who normally get into the ballpark for free, do have to purchase a game ticket to receive the Hersheypark ticket.  For more information including ticket sales visit HERE.
